Entitled Sons – Listened to My Mother
The Entitled Sons are 4 brothers and their Dad and are out of Somerset, UK – this band just keeps getting better and better – Their last several tracks are all awesome, but after spinning several of them several times each, it became clear that ‘Listened to My Mother’ is the perfect Z-GR! Radio opener.
Dollyrots – Brand New Key
I heard Melanie Safka’s 1971 track famously known as the ‘Rollerskating Song’ and decided to go find a cool cover of it – the song was a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971 and there have been a bunch of covers since – none, however, are as punk rock cool the Dollyrot’s take on the track. It was released in 2007 on Joan Jett’s Blackheart Record label, and the band, formed around Singer/Bass player Kelly Ogden and lead guitarist Luis Cabezas is still going strong and playing ‘Brand New Key’, the actual title of the song, to enthusiastic live audiences.

Stevie Starlight – Impossible Lovers
Venice, California’s Stevie Starlight brings the Classic Rock vibe and it’s really fun – I’ve had him on the show a few times now, and I decided to dig through his stuff for another track and it’s all fantastic but I decided that I wanted to put 2024’s ‘Impossible Lovers’ in your ears, and so it is done.
Bruvvy – No Psychic Vamps
Bruvvy is a female-fronted rock band fronted by vocalist Liz Varum, who has been referred to as a blend of Gwen Stefani from the Tragic Kingdom era and Joan Jett, – the band, which includes Paula Bunich on Bass, Nelson Gonzalez on guitars and Juan Cabrera on drums, is based in North Miami Beach, Florida and is known for their raucous live shows so check them out if you get the chance.
Alice Anarchy – Dead Girls Don’t Cry
Indianapolis’ alt-punk, riot grrl trans-feminist grunge rocker Alice Anarchy has some things to say, and I like what I’ve heard – ‘Dead Girls Don’t Cry’ is entirely self-produced and recorded by Alice in her bedroom studio, but you’d never know it – it sounds great – the track sits right in the middle of her 2025 release 20 track release ‘Trash Baby’ and it’s well worth a spin.

Idle Wave – Thanks, I Hate It
Idle Wave is an indie rock band based in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The group was originally formed in 2017 as a four-piece pop-punk band, but has since morphed into a solo project led by original frontman Guy Battaglia. The band has evolved from its pop-punk roots into a more indie-alternative sound and ‘Thanks I Hate It’ is off of the 2022 ‘Dream Guy’ album.
Zero-G Racetrack – Slave To My Ego
As Zero-G Racetrack’s vocalist, I have a soft spot for this track – I wrote the vocal as I was transitioning out of a long-term relationship, and realized to my chagrin that I had boxed up several things that I liked about myself to accommodate the relationship. The track is about self-realization within the context of a personal reboot, and making sure that you don’t go sideways during the renovation.

Seratonal / Seven Words – Time Just Marches On
What do you get when you merge an artist known for cool electronic soundscapes with an alternative rock band with a heavier edge? In this case, you get a great joint between Seratonal, aka Frankie Perez, who plays very well with UK bandt Seven Words – the track, which debuted on the show back on Episode 28, is full of cinematic vintage synth sounds and topped off with a Simon LeBon vocal vibe, which sounds awesome. ‘Time Just Marches On’ is crazy great, no lie.

Step Rockets – Better In The Summer
Minneapolis’ pop-rock band Step Rockets is back on the show and it’s about time – I really like these guys- they’re an indie rock four‑piece originally formed in the Twin Cities their sound is a mix of classic rock with modern glam and psychedelia. I’ve had them on the show a few times now, and ‘Better in the Summer’ is really great, so here there are.
Racing – Mystery Love
Personally, I think that Auckland- based Racing is ridiculously great and should sell T-shirts that say just that – their debut record ‘Real Dancing’ was nominated for Best Rock Artist at the 2019 Vodafone New Zealand and they are easily one of my favorite Z-GR! Radio artists. I’ve had them on four times with three different songs, but it’s been a minute, and their latest ‘Mystery Love’ is fantastic.

Normal Average People – After Some Sleep
South‑east London’s Normal Average People are a post-punk duo of vocalist Sam Gillbanks and producer multi-instrumentalist Emil Lloyd – the band released their debut EP The Moon Saloon in 2020 but to my ears, 2024’s ‘After Some Sleep’really elevates their game with a big, clean catchy sound – I’m hoping we hear more from them soon.
Crewless – Sexy Machine
Salt Lake City, Utah, Crewless infuses electronica with indie-pop punk energy – their sound leans into harmonies generated by three lead vocalists playing over on a musical bed made by blending punk guitars with danceable grooves. It all works really, really well. ‘Sexy Machine’ is off of the band’s 2024 album ‘Table for One’.
Greedy Beat Syndicate – Coltrane
I happened across the Greedy Beat Syndicate back in 2022 and was instantly enamored – the Syndicate is a group of musicians, DJs and Remixers out of London – they make some of the best dance tracks I’ve come across and that’s saying something. It’s well worth stopping by their YouTube channel if for no other reason than to check out the very cool video for ‘Coltrane’
