EPISODE 48 of Z-GR! Radio
April 25, 2025
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear and what I like. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I include artists from the playlist, though for time availabilty reasons, I’ve moved most of my attention to the show. I include new artists as well as artists who have appeared on past episodes.
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 950+ great tracks on that list and he updates often.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- We occasionally select artists for our NEWHD Featured Artist program. I’ll note those artists as they appear, and there are links to them at newhdmedia.com/zgr.
Have fun with the list , enjoy the artists/music and…
PLEASE share the page out on your Socials!
Z-GR! Radio Episode 48 Lineup
Ideomotor - Hold On
This week’s opener is by Ideomotor , an indie electro duo from Helsinki, Finland, formed in 2014 by childhood friends Erkka Wennonen and Kimmo Myllyviita, and along the way they transitioned from guitar-driven music, to a sound blending synth-pop, new wave, and indie rock. I really like them, and pulled ‘Hold On’ from their 2019 debut album ‘In and Out of TIme’.
Not A Boy's Name - Psychopath
’Psychopath’ is a 2023 single by Australian indie-pop artist Not A Boy’s Name AKA David Jenkins. The track showcases Jenkins’ signature blend of alternative pop and synth-driven melodies, delivering a sound that’s both infectious and emotionally resonant. David’s got some really great tracks including a joint with Z-GR! Radio favorite Bec Sandridge, so make sure you check his stuff out.
Atlas Neon / OnenO / Riffsputin - The Hand That Feeds
This week’s cover is of a 2005 Nine Inch Nails track from the album ‘With Teeth’. The track was arguably their biggest mainstream hit, topping multiple worldwide charts, but gives up none of the trademark Nine Inch Nails attitude. The track was an early example of remix encouragement, leading to a ton of takes on the track – Atlas Neon has teamed with OnenO and Riffsputin for this take – OnenO’s vocal is a dead ringer for Reznor, and the rest of the track brings a bunch of modern and very cool elements to the game.

Alexa Villa - Control
Southern California native Alexa Villa has been described as a Boss Babe charisma with unapologetic vocals and I really dig her stuff- she’s been on the show several times, including the very first Episode of Z-GR! Radio, and ‘Control’ is her latest and is awesome.
Space Sharks - Sunshine Girl
The Space Sharks are Lonnie Richard and Michael Martino. They’re based out of Baltimore and Boston and have been doing their thing since 2010. I really dig their modern psychedelic sound and I think you will too. I came across a conversation I had with Lonnie on the socials back in November and it reminded me that there’s a bunch of great Space Sharks track that I haven’t played, so here you go.
Dan Sindel - Ambition
A friend turned me on to Dan SIndel way back for Episode 2, and I’m glad he did – Dan’s got a great punk vibe and his history speaks to his ability – he’s been featured in Guitar Player and Electronic Musician magazines, and he was a fixture in the L.A. metal scene of the ‘80’s. Head over to his Spotify profile to hear some really interesting symphonic guitar work.
Royal Castles - Hunny Bunny
Canada’s Royal Castles self-describe as garage power-pop, which I think is a pretty accurate description – I first had them on Episode 22, and it’s time to get more ears on this track – they’re a three piece from the Royal City of Guelph, Ontario – hence the name – and I think they’re pretty cool.

Possible Oceans - False Light
Possible Oceans is the indie rock project of Los Angeles-based musician Trevor O’Neill. ‘False Light’ was Released in 2022 as part of the album Death by Misadventure. The song is a fusion of dark, synth-infused alternative rock, and it sounds awesome so it fits right in here at Z-GR! Radio.

Mully & Sculder - Like Animals
Electronic Zoo - Ready to Bleed
’Ready to Bleed’ is a synthpop single by the Swedish duo Electronic Zoo, comprising Peter Vivstam (formerly of French Revolution, and Conny Rundby, of Garbo STHLM. Released in 2016, the track showcases the band’s affinity for analog synth textures and emotionally charged vocals.
Under Delusion - Runaway
Under Delusion is a Moscow-based alternative rock band that emerged in the early 2020s. The trio is known for their distinctive fusion of moody synth textures, driving guitar riffs, and deep, low-timbred female vocals, and tends to lean into the heavy side of things – I came across them several months ago, and they fit right into this week’s lineup.
Ox - Battle Resistant
Ox is Edinburgh-based J.J.McGowan, award winning one-man band who records, produces and performs live. He’s well respected by a number of artists familiar to me and there’s a good reason for that. The more I listened to ‘Battle Resistant’ off of his 2020 EP ‘Four Years, the more cool stuff I heard in it, and the more I liked it.
Zero-G Racetrack - Never Ride Alone (Instrumental)
As the vocalist for Zero-G Racetrack, I’m never truly surprised at how much love we get for our instrumental track releases, and I’ve decided to lean into it a bit – this week’s closer is fan favorite ‘Never Ride Alone’, stripped bare of all verbosities.
