Week 37 - January 24, 2025
EPISODE 37 of Z-GR! Radio
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I pull from tracks/artists on the playlist (current and archived) and include newer finds that might not be on the list yet (but likely will be).
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 900+ great tracks on that list.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- I’m working with NEWHD on a Featured Artist program, and I’ll note those artists as they appear.
Have fun with the list below, enjoy the artists/music and…

Z-GR! Radio Episode 37 Lineup
Station Echo - Guilty
This week’s opener comes from France’s Station Echo – I really, really, like what these guys are doing – the band just released an EP that includes a cover of a Depeche Mode’s ‘I Want You Know’, and it’s excellent, but I reached back to their 2021 debut album ‘Control Voltage’ for ‘Guilty’.
Jere Garcia - Machine God
Helsinki’s Jere Garcia has been kicking around with multiple bands since the early ‘90’s, but really seems to have hit his stride with his solo work. Frankly, it was difficult choosing just one track off of his album release, but the album’s opener, ‘Machine God’ really has a great cyberpunk- goth vibe.
Mercury Machine - Second Life (Remixed and Remastered)
Psyche / Neuropa - Mad World
I know, I know, ‘Mad World’ has been covered a zillion times, and I almost passed over the Psyche / Neuropa joint for just that reason. I’m glad I didn’t, because this outstanding take on the song fits the Z-GR! Radio vibe like a glove. The track is featured on an album called ‘Numbers Covered II’ alongside some other very cool covers so check it out.

Space March - Zeros and Ones
Australia’s Craig Simmons goes by the name of Space March, and he released a fantastic new album in October of 2024. The album is called Zeros and Ones, and the title track opens with a simple synth line that leads into a well-crafted pop song that has a very nice vocal hook.
Evripidis and his Tragedies - Just a Little Wiser
Evripidis and his Tragedies is Athens, Greece-born Evripidis Sabatis, who relocated to Barcelona in 2004 and has been releasing cool music since. ‘Just A Little Wiser’ seems to bea fairly straight-forward Synthpop track – right up until it hits you with a deceptively memorable hook. It is a fantastic track with a wicked earworm, no lie.
KERRY - Get Me A Doctor
Chrizy - Face to Face
VVerevvolf - Sugar & Spice
Not going to lie, I’m a bit sad that SF Bay Area trio VVerevvolf has disbanded. I know that members have gone off to live their lives, but they put out some great tracks, including ‘Sugar and Spice’, and I’d love to see them play live. I know that it’s been a long minute since they’ve dropped new material, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that they’ll get the band back together.
Fuzzle - Tempting Fate
Fuzzle is the excellent RetroSynth duo of Sean Skifstrom and Eric Fransen – the band is split between SoCal and Phoenix, and while they self-describe as a love letter to the ‘80’s, i think the guitar textures really give them a distinct sound – ‘Tempting Fate’ is off of 2022’s excellent ‘Sweetest Destruction’ EP and marks the fifth time they’ve been on the show.
Alex Gaudino / Crystal Waters - Destination Calibria - Radio Edit
From Wikipedia – “‘Destination Calabria’ is Italian music producer Alex Gaudino with vocals by Crystal Waters. The track is a mashup, taking the popular and well-known instrumental from Rune RK’s “Calabria” and the vocals from Gaudino’s and Waters’ “Destination Unknown”, both originally released in 2003.”
The music video, which was directed by Eran Creevy, showed up in my YouTube feed and earwormed me in a big way. It doesn’t hurt, of course, that the video is a classic example of early 2000’s digital sexy, with amazing and wonderfully risque choreography by David Leighton performed by eight dancers decked out in sexy green marching band outfits and digitally replicated for striking effect.
