Week 19 - JuLY 12, 2024
EPISODE 19 of Z-GR! Radio
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I pull from tracks/artists on the playlist (current and archived) and include newer finds that might not be on the list yet (but likely will be).
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 900+ great tracks on that list.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- I’m working with NEWHD on a Featured Artist program, and I’ll note those artists as they appear.
Have fun with the list below, enjoy the artists/music and…

Z-GR! Radio Episode Nineteen Lineup
Robert Corbett - Spring of 86
Vacant Windows - Strung Up Again
Black Cab - Hanna
Australia’s Black Cab is a favorite of mine, and ‘Hanna’ is one of the reasons – released as the B side on the ‘Rostler’s Rules’ single in 2021 the track got a part 2 on the ‘Rostler’s Rules’ full album release, and easily stands on its own among a ton of great tracks. Black Cab is nearly required listening at this point, so make sure you check them out.

Nuclear Cowboy - Diva
Nuclear Cowboy, AKA Mitch Gilman put together some absolutely amazing sounds for ‘Diva’, I recommend headphones for this one so you can really hear the amazing sound design. Mitch does seem to prefer a sense of mystery when it comes to the socials, but he’s been busy in 2024 with a bunch of great releases, so check his streams.
Dekad - Dive
Weird Wolves - See The Light
Austin’s Weird Wolves is back on the show with 2022’s ‘See the Light’; I absolutely love this track – the bottom end is so thick and clear as it props up loping synth rhythm and complimentary vocal tracks. The Wolves just released a new record and a single, so make sure you check them out.

Olive Dares the Darkness - All Right Now
Episode One’s Olive Dares the Darkness is back on the show with ‘All, Right Now’ the standout from their first record – Based out of South Carolina, they play out fairly regularly and host a very cool show called the ‘Fairly Oddcast’ on SLE Radio, so catch them on stage or on their show when you can.

Orange County Death March / The Ladies of Sport - Better Kind of Lie
Los Angeles based Orange County Death March is always great, and seems to find great artists to collaborate with – this time it’s ‘Better Kind of Lie’ with the Ladies of Sport who also have a library full of joints with really cool artists, so expect to hear more from them soon.

The Ladies of Sport
glow wave - Don't Say A Word
I had glow wave’s ‘Don’t Say A Word’ on Episode 10 and since then the track’s stream count on Spotify has been growing rapidly and deservedly so. They’ve got a really cool album of covers, but truthfully, their entire catalog is fantastic, so make sure you take some minutes to check them out.
Ham SandwicH - Bodies
I maintain that there is a really really great group of Irish artists out there, and Ham Sandwich is yet another example – the band’s been around for 20 years and has a ton of great songs – ‘Bodies’ was initially released in 2017, was re-released in 2023 on the ‘Ages’ EP and there is an outstanding 6 minute version on their recent Live Album.

Harry Muffs Disco - I'm Waiting for You To Be with Me
Harry Ostrem is Harry Muffs Disco, and his stuff is Awesome. He self describes as Comedic Funk Disco, and frankly I don’t care what he calls himself – his tracks sound great and are well worth checking out, starting with ‘I’m Waiting For You to Be With Me’.
Zero-G Racetrack - Slave to My Ego
Fun fact about ‘Slave to My Ego’ – the song’s intro was initially created by fret tapping through an obscure guitar fx plugin. I stopped to buy a used KORG Volca Bass on the way to the studio one day, and Producer Bill Williams programmed it up, mixed it into the intro and it boy does it sound cool.
Inertia - Games Without Frontiers
Helefonix - Swings and Roundabouts
I am really excited to share Helefonix, AKA Helen Meissner with you. She’s a festival curator turned artist, and has a wonderful catalog of music – We’ve chatted a few times on Twitter, but it’s been around a year and I’m hoping that she’s got some new material coming. I’m reaching back to 2021’s ‘Confusion’ EP for ‘Swings and Roundabouts’; oddly, the only YouTube video for the track is a sampler of the EP, but all of the tracks are great, so it’s worth a look.
