Week 16 - June 14, 2024
EPISODE 16 of Z-GR! Radio
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I pull from tracks/artists on the playlist (current and archived) and include newer finds that might not be on the list yet (but likely will be).
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 900+ great tracks on that list.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- I’m working with NEWHD on a Featured Artist program, and I’ll note those artists as they appear.
Have fun with the list below, enjoy the artists/music and…

Rogue FX
Rogue FX is the UK’s Andrew Wood, who I met via socials through a common connection with Aisle 9. I’m super impressed with his sound so I asked him to guest on the show, and am thrilled that he agreed to it. He has numerous singles such as Filofax, Don’t Talk To Strangers and In The Dead Of Night which are all fantastic and have made top indie blogs and radio chart top tens including two number one charting tracks (awesome!).
His latest release is a joint with ARPRAXIS titled ‘G Star 84’; it’s out now, so make sure you check it out.

Episode Sixteen - On Demand
Z-GR! Radio Episode Sixteen Lineup
Big Image - Weigh Me Down
Pendants - Nothing to Fear
That was ‘Nothing to Fear’ by the Pendants. I really, really like those guys but I can’t find any info on them.
Soviet Union - Days With You
Zero-G Racetrack - My Baby Done Left Me
That was ‘My Baby Done Left Me’ by my band, Zero-G Racetrack – I decided to see if I could write a breakup song without being a bummer, so I decided to tell the story over an upbeat pop track, and it seems to have worked out. Personally, I think the blues guitar solo at the end really seals the vibe.
Wretched Pinhead Puppets - Houston
I’m a sucker for clever lyrics that tell an interesting story, and when I came across ‘Houston’ by the Wretched Pinhead Puppets back in 2022, it checked all of the boxes, including interesting sound design and some fantastic guitar/bass interplay to go with some fun horns.
Kersten Graham - Funk Me Up
G9 - Wannabe
Moscow’s G9 is really cool – I first heard them in 2021 and was taken immediately with their 2017 album ‘The End Is the Beginning’ – their socials haven’t been updated in a while, which is a shame because they are a lot of fun and I’d love to hear more from them – ‘Wannabe’ is easily my favorite track of theirs.
Disco In Sochi - Cherry SevenUp
That was Liverpool’s Alex Allen AKA Disco In Sochi with ‘Cherry Seven-Up’. I absolutely love this track – it’s got a modern Beastie Boys vibe to it that is just killer – Disco In Sochi made their live debut a few weeks back in Liverpool’s Arts Bar which is awesome, so keep an eye out for more appearances if you’re in that area.
Beyond Border / JanRevolution - Pry Open
Next up is a Joint between Germany’s Beyond Border and JanRevolution – ‘Pry Open’, is a great example of the modern evolution of 80’s synthpop and has a GREAT vocal. There are multiple remixes available and they’re worth checking out, but the fantastic single version is on the show.

JanRevolution
Electronic Zoo - Ready to Bleed
Linda Jo Rizzo - Come Into My Life (Let The Worries Go)
Next up is New York City’s Linda Jo Rizzo. She was one third of the Flirts, who gave us one of the greatest earworms from the ‘80’s called ‘Don’t Put Another Dime in the Jukebox’. It was an early MTV favorite in heavy rotation when it was released in 1982, and it ’s absolutely awesome that she’s still making great dance music – this is ‘Come Into My Life (Let the Worries Go)’ on NEWHD Rock Evolution.

Liquid Modern - Habits
That was Colorado’s Liquid Modern with ‘Habits’. I came across Liquid Modern in late 2021 with their cover of Sugar Ray’s ‘Fly’, which is awesome and they’ve built a really great library. They’ve announced that they’ll be playing their first live show in Massachusetts on August 19, so get that on your calendar if you’re in the area.

Rogue FX - People Are Strange
This week’s featured Guest is UK based retrowave Rogue FX AKA Andrew Wood – I asked him if he’d be into guesting, he was, and here we are, which is awesome – Rogue FX deservedly won Radio Wigwam’s 2024 best Electro Artist and his latest album, Detours and Illusions, is a collection of collaborations including one with Z-GR! Radio favorite Aisle 9. He has a track releasing this week – it’s a joint with arpraxis titled G-Star 84 so make sure you check that out – A Big Thank you to Rogue FX for the beds – they sound fantastic and as a bonus, he’s also supplying our cover song this week – it’s a synthwave take on the Door’s ‘People Are Strange’.
