Week 13 - May 25, 2024
EPISODE LUCKY 13!!
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I pull from tracks/artists on the playlist (current and archived) and include newer finds that might not be on the list yet (but likely will be).
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 900+ great tracks on that list.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- I’m working with NEWHD on a Featured Artist program, and I’ll note those artists as they appear.
Have fun with the list below, enjoy the artists/music and…
PLEASE share the page out on your Socials!
Kulintronica
Kulintronica fuses Kulintang, an ancient Filipino gong instrument, with modern electronic dance music.
The rhythmic sound of the gongs is PERFECT for electronica, adding a unique percussive element that simply can’t be heard anywhere else, and am thrilled that he agreed to be on the show!

Thanks for the awesome music beds, Kulintronica!

Bright Light Bright Light - Love Part II
You know I like to open each show with a big sound, and this week is no different – This piece of awesome is called ‘Love Part II’ and is by Bright Light Bright Light, AKA Rob Thomas – he’s got an awesome CV that includes touring with Cher and recording with Erasure and Elton John…yes, THAT Elton John. Pretty cool, Rob…pretty darn cool.

Melllo, Nikonn - Superstar
‘Superstar’ is a joint between London’s Marianthi and Producer Nikkonn. It’s a part of Marianthi’s solo project, and it’s been in the queue for several weeks now; I’m glad it’s hit the show, because iIt’s awesome, she’s awesome and Nikkon is also…awesome, no lie. Take some minutes to check his stuff out.

Ghost Love - Le Mepris
Munatix - Dancing Hard
NEUELIEBE - Time to Go
NEUELIEBE – Time to Go
I looked high and low for current info on NEUELIEBE – my efforts were for naught, but my enthusiasm for ‘Time to Go’ remains.
Voltaire Twins - Silhouettes
Geminii Dragon - Good Thang
A few years back, I stumbled across the Geminii Dragon and I’ve been a big fan since – when it comes to the blues, this dragon’s got the goods for sure – she’s from Louisiana, and definitely puts in the work to get her message out by touring all over the Southern states and beyond and you’re about to hear why I think she’s so great – this is ‘Good Thang’ and you’re hearing it on NEWHD Rock Evolution.

Katie Henry - On My Way
Sarah Stockholm - The Light
Brisbane’s Sarah Stockholm caught my ear with her latest album, 2023’s ‘Trace of Humanity’ – the record has a fantastic sound that fits the Z-GR! Radio format perfectly, and there are great songs throughout, but deep cut track ‘The Light’ made the cut for the show.
Zero-G Racetrack - Enjoy Today
Kulintronica - Bang A Gong
Kulintronica is part of the Z-GR! Family by way of musical association – Producer Bill Williams, the better half of Zero-G Racetrack, has been working with Kulintronica for years to help incorporate the Traditional Filipino Kulingtang gongs into a modern electronic dance sound and the results are as awesome as they are creative. The gongs themselves and the culture around them are pretty interesting, and I’ve linked some info below so you can learn more. Kulintronica supplies the cover song this week, appropriately, it’s the T-REX classic ‘Bang a Gong (Get it on)’. It’s a sterling cover, and really is the perfect anthem for a band that literally bangs a gong on every song. Awesome.
Octavian Winters - Velveteen (Mark Pistel Remix)
Our last track on this episode is by Octavian Winters, a band that came to my attention as a NEWHD Featured Artist – they’re from San Francisco and they just released a two-track EP that includes a Mark Pistel remix of their already awesome track ‘Velveteen’. It is a freaking great way to close out Lucky Episode Thirteen, and you should check them out for sure.
