Cat Temper is the alias of Boston-based meowsician Mike Langlie, mixing retro Synthpop, Electro, Punk, Hair Metal, and the sounds of 8-bit videogames. He sits on the fringes of the Synthwave movement in a genre his fans call “Meowave”. Like the name implies, Cat Temper switches gears from friendly to ferocious in the blink of an eye or the swish of a tail.

Thanks for the music beds, Cat Temper!
Kali J is blowing things up – she has a knack for working with amazing producers and the results are always great. I’ve had her on deck with another track (‘Own It’), but when her latest release ‘Live In Color’, a joint with top-flight L.A. Producer LiTTie dropped last week, I knew right away that the track was the perfect episode 10 opener. This is on Z-GR! Radio on NEWHD Rock Evolution.

Bec Sandridge is an Australian who worked with some high level producers on ‘Cost of Love’, and it anchors her ‘Lost Dog EP – I went with the Denim remix of the track for the show, but truthfully, all of her stuff is awesome, so go take a listen.

‘Yesterday’ is a joint between Maine Darkwave artist Rayne Reznor and Madison Wisconsin’s Samtar, who brings a very cool vocal presence – I really do like that track a lot and there’s more where that came from, so check out their stuff when you get a chance.

I’ve had Young Empress on the playlist for a long while now, and knew that they would end up on the show, but I wasn’t as familiar with Zak Vortex – once I heard his stuff, it was a no-brainer to get their collab version of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Go Your Own Way’ into the lineup.

Saigon Blue Rain was founded in 2013 and calls their sound ‘Sensual Darkwave’ and I think it’s an apt description – They released 3 albums before signing to Icy Cold Records in 2023 – I really like the sound of the first album with the new label, and I think you will , too – I played the title track, Oko, on the show, but there’s a lot more great music where that came from.
Big Softy is a trio based out of Leeds and I absolutely dig their sound – I played ‘Supercomputer’, but they have another favorite track of mine called ‘Big Man’. They’ve been quiet since 2022, and that makes me a bit sad. I’m hoping that we get some more of their awesome sounds soon.
First off, I’m not sure how to pronounce that last band’s name…is it Please Please? Pulse Pulse? Double Please? I’m going with PLS PLS to keep it simple. They’re out of Atlanta and I really like ‘Any Way I Can Get It’, and Social info is thin, so I’m not sure of their status, but their album ‘Everything That’s Left’ is awesome, so check it out.
I have to be honest – I’m not sure how it is that more people don’t know about Italian electronic rock artist Cobalto – you just heard the album cut of ‘Shine’ and there’s an excellent Davide Romani remix of the song with checking out as well. The band released their album ‘Something Beautiful’ last year, and it’s definitely worth your attention.

There are always tracks that I share with people as soon as I hear them, but every once in a while there is an entire album that I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for someone to make. Salme Dahlstrom, AKA Saint SX, took Roaring 20’s flapper music and infused it with a modern electronic dance vibe and a healthy dose of her signature attitude, and the resulting record ‘Fabulous’ is just that. The title track says it all, but ‘Guilty As A Girl Can Be’ got the nod because it is so freaking great.

I have really been enjoying the showcased instrumentalists on the show, and I hope you have been, too… I’m a huge fan of Boston’s Mike Langlie, AKA Cat Temper. Cat Temper celebrates Cat puns so I’m not going to steal Mike’s thunder – his music is awesome and ranges from synthwave to Hair Metal and Album titles like ‘Kitty Hate Machine’ and ‘Cat Out of Hell’, are indicative of the fur-based fun to be had. I always play the show out with a track from the guest artist, and in this case it’s ‘Pawnama’ off of Cat Temper’s latest, ‘Nineteen Eighty-Fur’. Thanks much for the beds, Mike – it’s been…purrrfect.
