The Wilderness Festival organisers have been busy this year, putting together a fearsome programme for 2024 with the aim of catering for every taste, with artists, musicians and creatives from every corner of the arts world.
With a focus on escapism, glamour and excitement, Wilderness offers intimate dance floors and hideaways, comedy programme, wild pursuits, long table banquets, talks and debates, parades, culinary experiences, interactive artworks, micro-venues and canopied amphitheatre The Valley.
The centrepiece is the Wilderness Stage, and set to feature this year is the mighty Michael Kiwanuka, whose Mercury-nominated debut album Home Again won BBC’s Sound of 2012, second album Love & Hate went gold, and third album KIWANUKA took the Mercury. He’ll be joined by house duo Bicep with their new AV DJ project Chroma, soul doyenne Jessie Ware, dance music legends Faithless, plus a raft of other artists including Oh My God! It’s The Church, Bjorn Again, Barry Can’t Swim, Alison Goldfrapp, Bill Bailey and De La Soul.
The years have seen certain Wilderness Classics developing, traditions that really set this festival apart from all the rest. Amongst others, these include the Wilderness Cricket Match, “defined by dubious umpiring decisions, fancy-dressed batsmen, inebriated bowlers, a raucous commentary and frequent streaking” and the Wilderness Choir complete with full symphony orchestra.
There’s also a Family Field crammed with games, activities and performers, and a Sanctuary with a schedule of diverse workouts, classes, talks, dances, gong baths and meditations hosted in four hubs; The Studio, The Shala, Mindful Space and Wellbeing in the Wild. You can try Aerial Yoga or Hot Girl Boxing, fitness classes or contemporary, Turkish-inspired dance. There’s also a Lakeside Spa, with wood-fired hot tubs. And you can paddle a boat in the middle of the freshwater lake, or take a wild swim.
