Last night’s (April 20th) stop of Maynard James Keenan‘s ‘Sessanta‘ tour saw some familiar guests welcomed into the fold. Keenan has been celebrating his 60th birthday on that trek, enlisting a rotating cast of musicians to deliver memorable performances.
Each night he and members of his bands A Perfect Circle and Puscifer swap members in and out with the roster of multi-platinum alternative metal weirdos Primus. The end result is a setlist spanning throughout the works of the each of the aforementioned bands, albeit augmented with additional personnel.
As a special surprise during the last night’s stop at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA, A Perfect Circle were rejoined by bassist Paz Lenchantin and guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens Of The Stone Age, etc.). The duo sat in on a track they originally performed on, A Perfect Circle‘s first-ever single: “Judith“. Lenchantin and Van Leeuwen would both go on to exit the group in 2002.
Outside of that, Keenan also welcomed his bandmates in the progressive metal heavyweights Tool (guitarist Adam Jones, bassist Justin Chancellor & drummer Danny Carey) onstage for a rendition of the title track to their 3x multi-platinum 1996 album, “Ænima“. Primus vocalist/bassist Les Claypool provided an assist with the vocals on that track. You may recall that Claypool previously covered that very song with members of Tool live last spring.
Despite restrictions being in place against filming at the show, fan-shot footage of both of those seemingly once in a lifetime performances has made its way onto the internet and is available for your perusal below.
