Multi-platinum alternative metal band Slipknot have begun their highly anticipated new touring cycle. As any longtime maggot knows, that means new masks, outfits, and everything else that comes with it. 2024 however marks a special year for the Iowan heavy hitters, as they are taking the time to look back and celebrate the 25th anniversary of their self-titled 1999 album that catapulted them to the big leagues.
This year also finds the chart-topping masked metallers rolling out with a new member behind the drum kit, having parted ways with Jay Weinberg last November. Of course, heavily rumored to have taken over that position is ex-Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande. Casagrande unceremoniously exited the aforementioned Brazilian metal legends earlier this year, leading to much speculation.
Slipknot‘s first show back came about in the form of an intimate performance at Pappy + Harriet’s tonight (April 25th) in Pioneertown, CA. That venue boasts a 850 outside capacity and by all accounts was packed.
That show was staged not only as a warm-up for the band’s big stage return at this Saturday’s (April 27th) ‘Sick New World‘ fest, but also a throwback of sorts to the groups early days before the success of “Slipknot” saw them rapidly leapfrog the various bands they were originally opening for.
Along with an assortment of updated throwback masks, the Knot also rocked retro red jumpsuits as well. At one point frontman Corey Taylor addressed the crowd, offering:
“Tonight, it doesn’t matter you came from. It doesn’t matter when you were born. This year is 19 fucking’ 99, right here. We’re gonna play you some songs from beyond that year. But God damnit, it all started in ’99, and it is starting again here tonight.”
Fan-filmed footage from the set has already begun to spill out online, you can see some clips below:
Proceeds from tonight’s show were being donated to the Joshua Tree No Kill Shelter and Boys And Girls Club of The Hi Desert. The band’s current live plans run as follows:
