Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III is reportedly set to join FOX and could soon call Tom Brady a colleague.
Griffin was previously employed by ESPN, but he was let go before last season despite having two years left on his contract. While he hasn’t officially signed a deal yet, The Athletic has reported that he is expected to cover college football for FOX.
It’s unclear whether Griffin and Brady will work together, but they did cross paths in their NFL careers. Back in 2014, during a joint practice between the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots, Griffin sought advice from Brady. However, Brady declined, citing a “competitive landscape”.
Despite this, ‘RG3’ confessed that he learned a lot from observing the Patriots. Speaking to the NFL in 2015, he said: “What you do learn from watching (Brady) — and then watching the Patriots organization — you get a big-picture look at it.
“Man, honestly, they operate like a high school football team. You remember in high school, how the coach calls everybody up, everybody runs up, gets on a knee and looks at the coach like what he is saying is the most important thing in the world? That’s how the Patriots are.
“They’re attentive. They run on and off the field. They run after practice. They do what they have to do — and everyone understands, whether they like it or not, this is what it takes to win championships. And they won the championship.

“For us to see that, as the Washington Redskins — to see exactly where it starts, and then to see the result — that’s big. We can’t ignore that. We don’t need to mimic them or try to be like them. We need to create our own culture — but we can learn from some of those things.”
After retiring from football, Griffin was offered the chance to join the ownership group that bought the Washington Commanders for $6 billion in 2023. However, he turned down the opportunity due to potential conflicts with his broadcasting career – a challenge also faced by Tom Brady in his role as a FOX analyst and part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
“The reason I did not join the group, which I’m saying is funny now, was because of the situation with Tom Brady,” Griffin admitted to Awful Announcing. “So, I was an analyst at ESPN, and to continue to be an analyst and be able to cover NFL teams, it would’ve been problematic to be in an ownership group of a team while calling games or doing studio work for that team. That’s the reason I wasn’t in the group.
“Tom Brady is now a top analyst for Fox and a minority owner for the Las Vegas Raiders, but that’s not something I bat an eye at. One, it’s Tom Brady. Tom Brady’s the greatest quarterback of all time, and he can do whatever the hell he wants to do. But for me, I’m always going to support the team.

“If there’s an opportunity in the future to join or be a minority owner, Josh knows that I’m 100 per cent interested in that. I know Kevin Durant has talked about wanting to become a minority owner of the team. That is certainly, I would say, a possibility. I have a great relationship with Josh Harris and the group, Magic Johnson.
“So, we’ll see, but it’s not something I’m pressing or pushing the medal for because I want to be a broadcaster and do it to the best of my ability. And if that means not joining the Washington Commanders ownership group because I can’t have access to certain things, then I’m OK with that.
“But, if they come to me in the future, I’ll certainly be ready to make that happen because that would be a dream come true. I’m never going to shy away from that.”
