Argentinian police have arrested and charged three people in connection with Liam Payne‘s death.
Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that during the investigation, “illicit conduct was discovered from which three people were charged with the crimes of abandonment of a person followed by death, supply and facilitation of narcotics.”
One person, who had been accompanying Payne, is charged with “the abandonment of a person followed by death.”
Two others, including a hotel employee, have been charged with two acts of supplying narcotics.
The prosecution filed charges after hearing testimony from “several dozen” hotel staff members, family members, friends, medical professionals, biochemists and psychiatrists and going through hundreds of hours of surveillance video.
Payne’s body was handed over to his family to be flown back to his homeland.
The former singer of the pop boy band One Direction died on October 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires.
The 31-year-old pop and R&B singer died on the spot after sustaining extremely serious injuries.
Payne was overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol, U.S. media quoted the hotel manager as saying.
Payne had spoken about struggling with alcoholism since the peak of One Direction’s success and also discussed his struggles with suicidal ideation.
