Next month, The Weeknd will make his acting debut in the feature film Hurry Up Tomorrow, while one of his classic tracks is influencing another film project.
Matt Reeves, the director of 2022’s The Batman featuring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, previously shared with IGN that Pattinson’s character will be in a vulnerable emotional state at the start of the upcoming sequel, The Batman Part II. Earlier this month, Reeves told IndieWire: “The Weeknd’s ‘Call Out My Name’ was a significant influence on what Bruce will be grappling with when we revisit him.”
“Call Out My Name” serves as the opening number on the Canadian-Ethiopian star’s 2018 EP My Dear Melancholy. The song peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and secured the No. 3 position on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Additionally, the music video has amassed over 1 billion views on YouTube, beginning with the artist traversing an empty street before unleashing a swarm of bats from his mouth as he powerfully sings the chorus.
The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) showcased a portion of the IndieWire article on his Instagram Story on Wednesday (April 30) featuring eye, broken heart, and bat emojis. He subsequently shared a frame from the bat scene in his “Call Out My Name” music video, stating, “lemme know if ya’ll want that seal moment” while Seal’s hit “Kiss From a Rose” played in the background of the IG Story slide.

Originally released as the second single from Seal’s 1994 self-titled second album, “Kiss From a Rose” struggled to gain popularity initially. Joel Schumacher, director of the 1995 film Batman Forever, contacted Seal for a song suitable for a romantic scene featuring the late Val Kilmer as Batman and Nicole Kidman as Dr. Chase Meridian, ultimately choosing “Kiss From a Rose,” which was later included in the end credits and on the film’s official soundtrack. The song gained significant traction due to the movie, reaching No. 1 on the Hot 100 and winning the award for best video for a film at the MTV VMAs that same year, along with three Grammys for record of the year, song of the year, and best male pop vocal performance in 1996.
The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.
