Ah, Coachella, the perfect venue to charge a bunch of people $100 each for a gram of oregano. I feel like the days when anyone really respected Coachella as a quality music festival have long since past, and these days it’s a repository for bland, soulless pop music with a few good bands here and there but rarely anyone that’s really going to shock the status quo. But this year’s lineup, which was announced yesterday, has a few surprises buried in the lineup. Once you get past the headliners, which are Lady Gaga, Green Day, and Post Malone, you get some surprisingly big name acts in hardcore, including a really surprising performance by The “Original” Misfits.
In addition to The “Original” Misfits (who, if we’re being honest are actually maybe the third lineup of the Misfits, not the original lineup) the bougie festival will also feature Speed, Circle Jerks, and Gel. That’s a few more really hardcore acts than we’re used to seeing in a Coachella lineup alongside the likes of Missy Elliott, Charli XCX, Megan Thee Stallion, and a whole lot of other acts that are a bit more radio friendly. And all of this takes place at some place called the Empire Polo Club which sounds like the name of a private club where really rich white men come to hunt minorities for sport and blow each other on the down low.
Of course, if these hardcore acts were the only ones you wanted to see, I doubt the ticket prices that start somewhere around $550 for a two-day pass would really be worth it to you, nor would it be worth putting up with literally thousands of trust-fund hippies. But hey, if the full lineup floats your boat, the presale begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. PT.
