The Offspring‘s “The Kids Aren’t Alright,” a song off their 1998 album Americana, has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify.
“The Kids Aren’t Alright” marks the second song by The Offspring to join the Spotify Billions Club after their 2008 hit “You’re Gonna Go Far Kid” achieved the milestone over the summer.
“The Kids Aren’t Alright” is the fifth track from the band’s fifth studio album, Americana (1998). It peaked at No. 11 on both Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock chart and the U.K. Singles chart. The song is widely considered one of the Offspring’s best songs.
The song lyrics tell the stories of several people from a town and the problems they faced growing up (unplanned pregnancy, unemployment, drug addiction, and suicide). Dexter Holland wrote the song after visiting his hometown, Garden Grove, California, and discovering many of his old acquaintances had found problems in life.
