Long Island emo/melodic hardcore torch-carriers Stand Still have announced their debut full-length album, following the In A Moment’s Notice (2022) and A Practice In Patience (2021) EPs. It’s called Steps Ascending, and it comes out June 14 via DAZE (pre-order). The album was produced and mixed by Greg Thomas, with additional mixing by Chris Teti, and it features guest vocals by Kristian Hallbert of Stand Still’s stylistic forebears Crime In Stereo on “Dust” and Michael Smith of current LIHC staples Pain Of Truth on “We Know the Score.”
The album includes recent singles “Steps Ascending” and “Mysticism,” as well as the just-released third single “In the Dying Light of a Setting Sun.” Like the first two singles, it’s a well-executed revival of Silent Majority/Movielife-style Long Island emo, and it fits right in with peers like Koyo and Private Mind too. Vocalist Gerry Windus says:
The “setting sun” in this track is one’s lifespan running short, and the “dying light” describes the remains of one’s motivation to live a fulfilling life. These lyrics describe my personal struggle to capture the childlike imagination that surrounded my early creative years while lacking the drive of a younger version of myself, a drive that I am well aware I may never get back.

Stand Still also just announced a tour with Soul Blind (who are headlining) and ASkySoBlack, including shows at Ridgewood, NY’s TV Eye on June 13 and Lake Como, NJ’s Salty’s Beach Bar on June 16. Tickets for those shows go on sale Friday (4/26) at 10 AM.
Sooner than that, Stand Still open Drain‘s just-announced NYC show happening at Bowery Ballroom on May 20, one day after Drain’s bigger, sold-out show at Brooklyn Monarch (4/19). That’s also with Teenage Wrist. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (4/26) at 10 AM too.
