“The Weight You Carry”: the perfect balancing act between nostalgia and a fresh sound
From the first time I heard “The Weight You Carry”, I was thrilled by the mix of synth pop and dark wave. Silent Runners from the Netherlands have created a song here that sounds familiar at first glance, but the details keep it fresh and independent.
For me, the synthesiser is the highlight of the track. Not only is it varied and rich in detail, but it also carries the entire atmosphere of the song. The vocals blend in perfectly.
However, I have to say that the guitars are a bit too dominant for my taste. But – and this is the crucial point – the quality of the synth sound and the overall composition are so strong that I can easily overlook this.
What I also find exciting is the clear influence of greats like “Depeche Mode” and “New Order“, which the band themself mentions. You can tell from the precision with which the elements are put together, without getting lost in pure retro aesthetics.
