Shy Pilot: Stop Start
(Self-released)
ST | DL available now
Bristol based band Shy Pilot drop their debut single and mix up shoe gaze and indie rock.
Shy Pilot are a Bristol based band who have just released their debt single Stop Start. Citing their diverse influences as Jimmy Eat World, The Maccabees, DIIV, Sonic Youth and Amusement Parks on Fire, the single pulls in multiple strands to provide a pleasing debut.
Opening with an urgent guitar and drums being pounded the fuck out of, the vocals swoon over this aggression with a yearning and dreamy feel, whilst the second guitar creates jangling pop notes. It’s a slickly produced number with big chords and is hook laden with emo undertones. It all builds up to a pleasing resolution.
The single was recorded at Humm Studios and a follow up single, Glow Fade, is set for release in mid-May.
Shy Pilot’s music is a mix of melodic pop sensibilities twinned with brutal distortion which creates a sound of smart hooks and ear bursting sonics.
Shy Pilot are: Simon Layfield (vox/guitar), Jamie Ladd (bass), Dan Faulkner (guitar), Loretta Cheng (drums)
Dan Faulkner was the face behind Ex Lover, who we reviewed back in January 2021 here
A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
