Sha’Carri Richardson’s boyfriend Christian Coleman was left “truly motivated” by the love and support he received from his foundation’s latest competitive track meet.
The Christian Coleman Invitational was hosted by the Westlake Lions Track and Field team on Saturday, March 15, where the renowned track and field sprinter was joined by almost 50 participating schools for a day of events, with 40 schools from Georgia, two from Florida, and one from Alabama participating.
It meant around a thousand students turned up in order to compete and impress the three-time world champion, including seven defending state championship teams. By the end of the competition, it was the Marietta Blue Devils who emerged victorious in the girls’ competition, while hosts Westlake came out on top in the boys’ side of the meet.
A montage of the day was uploaded to Instagram by Westlake coach Jason Cage, featuring some insights from the invitation, pictures of his colleagues and a snap of Coleman himself, where the 29-year-old is seen holding a jacket that read all of his big career accolades.
Coleman ended up sharing the post to his own account on Wednesday, where he showed his appreciation for the support and turnout at the event with a touching caption. “Great turnout for the CC invitational. Truly motivational to receive so much love and be able to touch the youth in the sport that has given me so much, Already looking forward to next year,” he wrote.
Following the event, Cage lauded Coleman for giving back to the community, which was summed up in another clip from the day which captured the former 100m world champion signing autographs for young athletes alongside his girlfriend, Richardson, who also accompanied him on the day.
Coleman showed his appreciation for the 24-year-old’s support throughout the day, writing in a separate post: “Keep inspiring the youth & the world @itsshacarri I promise we right behind ya.” Richardson then shared the post to her own page, writing: “You the chosen one. Thank you for all the things you do for your community! We got you! @_coleman2.”
The power couple also took the time to speak to parents of some of the athletes who were there on the day, offering words of encouragement influenced from their own personal experiences as they watched from the sidelines. Handing out prizes and sharing autographs was also a big part of their day.
Following the event, a post from Fulton County School (FCS) – Georgia’s fourth largest school system – read: “The Christian Coleman Invitational on March 15th at Westlake High School was nothing short of amazing! Student-athletes from across Georgia showed incredible talent and determination on the track.
“A heartfelt thank you to Christian Coleman and Sha’Carri Richardson for inspiring our young athletes with your presence and support. Your impact on these future stars is immeasurable”
