Sevendust stopped into the Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 5th, 2024 with their Seasons 21st Anniversary Tour. It was no surprise; the show was sold out. Sevendust has an impressive fan base in the Nebraska.
Horizon Theory, hailing from Michigan kicked off the sold-out night. Horizon Theory had a great metal sound with a good blend of screams and melody. They did a great job hyping up the crowd and were a perfect fit for a Sevendust opener.
Return to Dust out of California was second on the docket. This was my second time seeing Return to Dust, as they recently toured with Chevelle. They had an impressive set at the Steelhouse in Omaha last July, and I’ve been following them since. This show was no different. Return to Dust brought their grungy alternative style to the stage. They played a seven-song set with my favorite “Belly Up”. Besides their remarkable performance, they were especially relatable, visiting with fans at the merch table and chatting up people in the crowd on the way to the stage.
The third band of the night, 10 Years, started off their set with the catchy “Shoot It Out” and kept the crowd hyped. I felt the sound was off a bit, so not sure what was up with that, but overall they had a solid 11 song set including “Beautiful“, “The Shift” “Fix Me”, “Novacaine” and an extraordinary version of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” mid set. They ended the set with “Wasteland” and people went crazy. It was the crowd favorite by far.
Sevendust took the stage with a lineup change. Guitarist Clint Lowry was unable to join them on tour due to a neck injury. They enlisted Jon Jourdan from MAMMOTH WVH and their manager/friend Tim Tournier to fill in. Sevendust played their album, Seasons, front to back. Lajon Witherspoon (lead vocals) sporting a gold lettered 10 years tee and gold jewelry got emotional addressing the crowd as he thanked them for all the support and “making their dreams come true”. I felt his connection to the crowd.
I wasn’t familiar with all the songs from the Seasons album, but seemed like the rest of the Bourbon Theatre was. I felt the most energy when they played “Face to Face”. The place exploded. They could have ended the set right there, and I feel everyone would’ve been happy. Sevendust left the stage only to reenter to cheers of “Sev-en-dust” “Sev-en-dust”. They finished the rest of their album and didn’t think the crowd could get more excited than they were, but they did with the final song, “Praise”.
Sevendust had the crowd in the palm of their hand; a testament to their longevity and connection with their fans. Kudos and thanks to 104.1 the Blaze and The Bourbon Theatre for another fantastic night of hard rock memories.
