Serena Williams confessed that she avoided Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl as Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs were losing the game. Williams almost crossed paths with Swift at the event, as the 43-year-old waited outside of the songstress’s suite in hopes of acquiring an autograph for her daughter, Olympia.
“I’m such a mom. I was ready to go in here myself and be like, ‘Taylor, come get this girl,’” she said. “My husband and I, we’re so in a different space.
“We’re so connected, we’re so in love, we’re just, like, trying to get our daughter Taylor Swift autographs. And nothing else.”
However, given the fact that the Chiefs were losing badly for much of the contest, Williams ultimately decided not to approach Swift. “It’s hard when your team is losing. I totally get it,” she added.
Williams also hit back at Philadelphia Eagles fans for booing Swift during Super Bowl LIX, calling their actions “awful.”
As Swift supported her boyfriend from a suite, while the Chiefs faced a tough 40-22 defeat to the Eagles, her night took a turn for the worse when she was met with boos upon appearing on the jumbotron at the Caesars Superdome.
The crowd’s harsh reaction didn’t go unnoticed in the sports community, with figures like Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews and Williams questioning the hostility from Eagles fans, reports the Mirror US.

“Why would you boo her?” Williams said to Time Magazine. “That’s so mean. That’s just awful.” Williams also faced her own share of criticism following her surprise appearance at the event.
She took the stage with Kendrick Lamar during his Halftime Show and performed a crip-walk to his song “Not Like Us” sparking controversy. The FCC was flooded with about 125 complaints after Lamar’s performance, with one viewer claiming Williams’ dance promoted “gang affiliation.”
Some even thought her moves were a veiled jab at her former flame Drake, whom she dated intermittently from 2011 to 2015. Reflecting on the fallout, Williams admitted uncertainty about whether she’d make the same choice again. “I don’t know if I regret it or not,” she said. “I don’t know the answer to that.”

On whether she had intentions to take a pop at Drake, she said: “Absolutely not. I would never do that. And that was sad, that anyone would ever think that.
“I understand how they could think that. Obviously I can see how someone would think that. But absolutely not. I have never had negative feelings towards him. We’ve known him for so many years.”
Williams also emphasized that her crip-walk was meant to highlight her background rather than cause drama. “Who would have thought that a tennis player from Compton would be regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time?” she said. “It was just putting an exclamation on it.”
