“Ojos Tristes” debuts at No. 4 on Hot Latin Songs, which combines airplay, digital sales, and streaming data in its methodology, primarily driven by streaming success. The track accumulated 8.2 million official streams in the U.S. during the tracking week ending March 27, as reported by Luminate. This figure allows for a No. 3 entry on Latin Streaming Songs, marking Gomez’s fifth top 10 and a simultaneous first for Blanco and The Marias.
Gomez’s “Ojos Tristes” samples “El Muchacho De Los Ojos Tristes” from Spanish-British artist Jeanette, who gained fame in the 1970s. Although this song, created by Manuel Alejandro, didn’t chart, Jeanette’s renowned hit “Porque Te Vas” peaked at No. 25 on Latin Pop Airplay in 2008.
The bilingual “Ojos Tristes” blends nostalgic tunes with contemporary sound, featuring Gomez singing in English while Maria Zardoya of The Marias provides soft vocals that echo Jeanette’s style for today’s listeners.
This collaboration has enabled Blanco and The Marias to notch their first top 10 on Hot Latin Songs after each had previous entries. Blanco previously reached No. 22 last December as a featured artist on Myke Towers’ “Degenere.” The Marias peaked at No. 17 with their collaboration “Otro Atardecer” alongside Bad Bunny in 2022.
For Gomez, “Ojos Tristes” marks her fifth top 10, and her first since “Selfish Love,” in collaboration with DJ Snake, which debuted and peaked at No. 6 in 2021.
“Ojos Tristes” also makes strides across various Billboard charts. It debuts at No. 59 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, it starts at No. 63 on the Billboard Global 200 with 19.5 million streams, and at No. 118 on Global Excl. U.S. with 11.3 million streams outside the U.S.
Sales also contribute to the song’s top 10 debut on Hot Latin Songs, with “Ojos Tristes” recording 1,000 downloads in the U.S., leading to a No. 1 debut on Latin Digital Song Sales.
