Russell Wilson has sparked intrigue with a cryptic message following rumors the Pittsburgh Steelers have made Aaron Rodgers their top pick.
Rodgers, 41, was let go by the New York Jets earlier this month after an injury-riddled two-year stint with the team. The four-time NFL MVP made his move to the Big Apple from the Green Bay Packers in 2023 amidst much anticipation, but he tore his left Achilles tendon just four plays into his debut.
Prior to Super Bowl LIX, the Jets announced they would be parting ways with Rodgers, who only managed to participate in 18 games during his brief tenure at the MetLife Stadium.
Last year, Wilson was the quarterback for the Steelers, but he’s currently a free agent. There have been whispers about him returning to Steel City, but it seems head coach Mike Tomlin’s first choice is Rodgers.
After the Super Bowl winner was shown around the franchise’s facilities as part of a free-agent visit, Wilson took to social media and appeared to send a veiled message to the management of his former team.
The free agent uploaded an eight-word post which said: “Relentless Confidence. Don’t ever stop believing in you!”
As of now, the Steelers haven’t decided whether they’ll sign Rodgers or not. While no deal has been struck yet, ESPN reports that Tomlin would prefer to bring Rodgers to the Acrisure Stadium.

There was speculation that Rodgers favored a move to the Minnesota Vikings, yet they opted to stick with J. J. McCarthy, despite the fact he missed the entirety of his rookie season due to injury. ESPN also claimed that Rodgers wasn’t overly troubled by the Vikings’ decision, as he is “in no rush” to settle on his future plans.
The New York Giants emerged as potential suitors for Rodgers but decided against pursuing him, instead signing free-agent Jameis Winston to an $8 million contract.
Rodgers has the luxury of waiting until after the NFL Draft to decide on his next steps in the game. Despite being 41, the New York Post has indicated his keen interest in continuing to play, highlighting his efforts to persuade the Jets to keep him on board.

The team had, however, seemingly made up their minds to let him go before Rodgers got the chance to meet with new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. In February, ahead of the Super Bowl, Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly acknowledged Rodgers’ departure.
He expressed his gratitude saying: “I personally want to thank Aaron for his time at the New York Jets. His arrival in 2023 was met with unbridled excitement and I will forever be grateful that he chose to join us to continue his Hall of Fame career.
“From day one, he embodied all that it meant to be a New York Jet, embraced our fans, and immersed himself in our city. That is what I will remember most when I look back at his time here.
“He will always be welcome, and I wish him only the best in whatever he chooses to do next.”
