The New York Yankees faced the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night, and one of the biggest stories from that matchup was Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez. In the third inning, Domínguez hit a solo shot for his first home run of the season. Yet, later in the game, he was pulled for Trent Grisham.
Many Yankees fans were not thrilled about manager Aaron Boone yanking the young star, particularly since New York went on to lose to the Diamondbacks 7-5. Many fans wished Domínguez was still in the game during the ninth inning.
New York Yankees Fans React to Jasson Domínguez Being Benched
Domínguez was 2-for-3 with a home run against the Diamondbacks. But for some reason, the Yankees skipper decided to pull him in the later innings.
After the game, the outfielder spoke to the media about his first homer of the season. “It feels nice to get that first one,” Domínguez said.
If he stays healthy, Domínguez has a strong chance to hit 25 to 30 home runs this season. But moving forward, he needs to be in the lineup late in games.
Yankees fans were frustrated about him being taken out and want to see him play all nine innings already.
One New York fan said, “Too bad they take him out every game and take ABs away from him. At least Grisham took the bat off his shoulder there in the 9th… oh wait.”
To reference, Grisham struck out in his lone at-bat during the ninth inning. Had Domínguez been up instead, it might have been a different story, as Ben Rice homered in the next at-bat.
Another New York fan said, “Only if the kid could finish games. Ridiculous that Boone keeps taking him out.”
Maybe sooner or later, the Yankees manager will trust his outfielder to stay in late.
Another fan added, “HOW ABOUT ASKING YOUR MANAGER TO LET YOU PLAY THE WHOLE GAME THIS EARLY IN THE SEASON.”
New York fans continue to be frustrated with Boone’s in-game decisions, and this is one of the reasons they keep bashing him.
Domínguez has played in four games thus far in 2025 for New York. He has a .273 batting average and a .429 on-base percentage.
At some point, Boone is going to need to keep him in the lineup instead of subbing him out for Grisham or someone else. Domínguez’s bat is too important to take out, especially with the current lack of depth.
