It’s the beginning of the end once again for Refused. The revolutionary Swedish post-hardcore band launched their farewell tour tonight, March 20th, at Atlantis in Washington, DC. Last fall, the group announced that they would once again be hanging it up, this time winding down their career later this year. They previously had called it quits in 1998, before reuniting in 2014.
This opening night of the North American leg of their final year of touring found them performing their 1998 track “Poetry Written In Gasoline” live for the first time, while also dusting off their early cut “Blind” for its first performance since 1993. Notably, the show was also Refused‘s first since their vocalist Dennis Lyxzén suffered a heart attack last year. Here’s how tonight’s setlist ran:
“Poetry Written In Gasoline” (live debut)
“The Shape Of Punk To Come”
“The Refused Party Program”
“Rather Be Dead”
“Life Support Addiction”
“Pump The Brakes”
“Blind” (first performance since 1993)
“Malfire”
“Liberation Frequency”
“Summerholidays vs. Punkroutine”
“Refused Are Fucking Dead”
“The Deadly Rhythm”
“Protest Song ’68”
“Elektra”
“New Noise”
Encore:
“Coup d’etat ”
“Circle Pit”
“Worms Of The Senses/Faculties Of The Skull”
