Emotional depth instead of dancefloor: Why I love “Our Lady Of Sorrows”
Sometimes a song really strikes a chord, and for me, Pleasure Victim’s Our Lady Of Sorrows is one of those moments. The track unfolds slowly, almost like a melancholy stroll through mist-covered streets. What appeals to me most is the calmness and clarity that the song radiates. There is no cluttered soundscape, but a steady build-up that carefully introduces new sounds and effects. This has something soothing, almost meditative about it – and I think that’s exactly what makes this song so special.
The combination of male and female vocal harmonies gives the piece an almost ghostly beauty that perfectly matches the melancholy mood. The melodic structures are so precise and atmospheric that they will stay in my head for a long time.
What strikes me: Compared to earlier tracks like “Passion And Punishment” or “Holy Violence”, Our Lady Of Sorrows seems much more mature and well thought out. While the band has often incorporated post-punk elements with guitars in the past – which, to be honest, isn’t really my thing – this song shows a different facet of Pleasure Victim. This is where I see the potential: fewer guitars, more synthesizers!
