Paula Badosa recently opened up about the close bond she shares with her younger sister, Jana Badosa. She also mentioned that she is like a “mother and a sister” to her younger sibling.

Paula Badosa Opens Up About Her Relationship With Her Sister Jana
Badosa last competed at the 2025 Miami Open, where she secured victories against Victoria Mboko and Clara Tauson in the second and third rounds, respectively. However, she had to withdraw from the tournament before her fourth-round match against Alexandra Eala due to a persistent lower back injury that has plagued her in the past.
Following her campaign at the WTA 100 hard court tournament in Florida, Badosa was unable to participate at the recently concluded Madrid Open due to the same injury.
In an interview with Eurosport, Badosa opened up about her injury struggles, career, family, and her relationship with her sister Jana.
The former World No. 2 expressed that she and Jana have a “very special” relationship. She also mentioned that due to the ten-year age gap between them, she often takes on a maternal role towards her younger sister.
Badosa also revealed that she and Jana maintain constant communication when they are apart by speaking on the phone constantly.
“We have a very special relationship. I left home when I was 14, and she was 4. She’s more like a daughter to me than a sister. I always acted as both a mother and a sister, with all due respect to my mother. Then she went to the United States to study. We always talk 24/7; there isn’t a day when I don’t talk to her for a couple of hours. We have a very close relationship,” Paula Badosa said [translated from Spanish].
Paula Badosa Talks About the Impact of Sister Jana’s Support on Her Tennis Career
In the aforementioned interview, Badosa talked about her motivation for continuing to play tennis despite her persistent back injury. She expressed that her wish to win her first Grand Slam and the love and support of her family and fans are the driving forces for her to continue playing tennis.
Badosa mentioned that her sister Jana and mother Mireia are the most important people in her life, and for whom she continues to compete on the court.
“Aside from chasing that Grand Slam, one of the reasons I keep going is because of all the people who love and follow me. For me, the most important person is my sister. I also do a lot for my mother; we have a very special relationship linked to tennis,” Paula Badosa said
The former World No. 2 mentioned that the support from her loved ones, team, and fans gives her the strength to push through the injury.
“Every time I drop out of a tournament, I feel like I’m letting them down, even though they insist they’re in the same boat with me. I can move a lot of crowds, but that also means having a lot of responsibility, which is why I think I owe a lot to my family, my team, and all my fans,” Paula Badosa added.
Looking ahead, Badosa is next expected to compete at the 2025 Italian Open which is scheduled to take place from May 6 to May 18 at the Foro Italico in Rome.
