Paris Charles de Gaulle airport introduces upgraded baggage security measures and a specialized handling area in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The enhanced system features advanced scanners capable of thorough inspections of passengers’ luggage, eliminating the need for removing items like electronic devices or liquids. According to Edward Arkwright, CEO of Aéroports de Paris Group, suspicious bags will be intercepted to ensure safety.
Anticipating a significant influx of baggage, including sports equipment, during the Olympics, the airport is set to process over 114,000 pieces from delegations and media personnel. Additionally, an estimated 47,000 sports items are expected. A dedicated 10,000-square-meter area named the “baggage factory” has been unveiled to handle the belongings of athletes departing after the closing ceremony.
The airport’s project manager, Sébastien Malaussene, highlighted the challenge of managing oversized sports equipment brought by athletes, emphasizing the need for specialized handling procedures.
