As four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs navigates free agency for the first time in his career, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer has identified several potential landing spots for the veteran playmaker.

2 Potential Suitors for Stefon Diggs in 2025
The 31-year-old Diggs is coming off of his lone season with the Houston Texans, which saw him reel in 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns, before tearing his ACL in Week 8.
It was Diggs’ worst statistical season of his career, partly because of what Breer reported as “[a willingness] to take on a lesser role in large part because he recognized the talent of young No. 1 target Nico Collins.”
It seems that, at this stage of his career, while coming off of a torn ACL, the dynamic of him no longer being “the guy” may continue going forward, according to Breer.
“The best place for him, it seems, would be with a contender where he wouldn’t have to be the guy, which would mitigate potential issues with his desire for the ball and also alleviate the frustration that losing can bring a guy with his sort of makeup,” Breer wrote.
Breer predicted two teams that fit that description and could be potential targets for Diggs: the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys.

The 49ers have some weapons in the passing game, like George Kittle, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings; however, they are looking for a replacement for Deebo Samuel Sr. following his trade to the Washington Commanders. Recent reporting suggests that they could be shopping Brandon Aiyuk, which could open up a complementary role out of the slot, where Diggs would excel at this point in his career.
Dallas, meanwhile, presents a unique personal connection: Diggs’ younger brother, Trevon, is a standout cornerback for the Cowboys. The Cowboys lack a No. 2 receiver, especially following Brandin Cooks’ signing with the New Orleans Saints. The team also needs to keep up with the firepower of its division foes — the Philadelphia Eagles and Commanders.
It is also worth noting that Diggs had a visit with the New England Patriots last week but left the building without a contract.
Breer also added in his article that, “There’s this idea out there that 31-year-old four-time Pro Bowler is a pain in the rear, and I’m not going to say he hasn’t been at times. Obviously, strained relationships with Kirk Cousins and Josh Allen didn’t happen without some blame falling at the feet of the supremely talented Diggs.”
However, this notion is misguided, says Breer. “Most who’ve worked with him love him. Not like. Love.”
The dismantling of who Diggs is behind the scenes is contributing to the interest he is receiving from NFL teams. It was reported that the Las Vegas Raiders plan on pursuing Diggs as well.
As free agency continues to unfold, Diggs remains one of the most intriguing names on the market. While questions about his role and health linger, his proven production, experience, and respected presence in locker rooms continue to generate interest from teams across the league.
Whether it’s a reunion with family in Dallas, a fresh start in San Francisco, or another surprise destination, Diggs’ next move will be one of the offseason’s key storylines to watch.
