NFL great Brett Favre’s checkered history is to be laid bare in a new Netflix documentary set to air. Favre, an NFL stalwart with 20 seasons under his belt, including a jaw-dropping stint of 321 consecutive regular season and playoff appearances, helped the Green Bay Packers seize victory at Super Bowl XXXI.
Besides his time with the Packers, he’s also taken to the field for the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, and was picked by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft.
Yet Favre’s legacy isn’t without its dark spots, as numerous allegations have cast shadows over his reputation. The 55 year old icon has recently come under fire for allegedly misdirecting $2.5 million in federal grants meant for Mississippi welfare programs and voicing opposition to trans athletes in sports competitions.

Moreover, during his twilight NFL year back in 2010, Favre faced an investigation by the league over claims he sent lewd texts and left unwanted, unpleasant voice messages for Jets “Gameday host” Jenn Sterger in the 2008 season. Netflix’s ‘Untold: The Fall of Favre’ is about to pry into these scandals.
Netflix whetted appetites this Tuesday, releasing a preview for the anticipated feature, promising an in-depth look at the storms confronting Favre both throughout his gridiron battles and beyond.
The trailer spotlights Sterger recounting her experiences and features a voice message from Favre himself, as she bravely states: “Brett Favre ultimately destroyed my life.”, reports the Mirror US.
The new documentary ‘The Fall of Favre’ is set to delve into the storied career of Brett Favre, with a premiere date of May 20 on Netflix, as tweeted by Adam Schefter.

Rebecca Gitlitz, helming the latest chapter in Netflix’s acclaimed ‘Untold’ series, sheds light on the darker side of a football legend. She reveals that the film explores how a celebrated quarterback’s alleged off-field misconduct was overlooked due to his fame.
“This story about one of the greatest quarterbacks in history goes beyond touchdowns and epic wins and lifts the lid on how when fame rises, sometimes accountability falls,” Glitz stated. “It was made with the intention of laying out patterns of behaviors, told from the people who lived with the consequences of Favre’s actions, to ask audiences to consider if success should be a shield for harmful behavior.”
She further challenges viewers to reflect on the implications of idolizing sports figures: “Ultimately, the film challenges all of us to consider when we let our heroes go too far, who is to blame? And when the dust settles, can we have honest conversations about the humanity of all of those involved.”

Favre, whose iconic Packers no. 4 jersey is retired, is currently facing Parkinson’s Disease, which he disclosed in September 2024. He has maintained that his diagnosis was the reason behind his controversial acceptance of $1.1 million in federal welfare funds through Mississippi.
“Sadly, I also lost my investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others,” Favre remarked at the hearing. “As I’m sure you’ll understand, while it’s too late for me – I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s – this is also a cause dear to my heart. Recently, the doctor running the company pleaded guilty to taking TANF money for his own use.”
