NC State is keeping Marquette at an arm’s length. The Wolfpack lead 46-33 with 11:53 to go. Marquette has tried to get back in the game, but they haven’t been able to make a shot or have committed a critical turnover.
The Golden Eagles are shooting 2 of 17 from behind the arc. That will have to progress back to the mean pretty quickly if Marquette is going to pull off the comeback.

Purdue led the nation in 3-point shooting with a 40.9% success rate. Tough to defend a team that shoots like that and mans Zach Edey in the middle.

Zach Edey just got away with one. Basically fell on top of Ryan Nembhard while fighting for a rebound, sending him to the floor. No call.

What a first half for the No. 11 seed. NC State leads No. 2 Marquette 37-24 at halftime. The Wolfpack are 20 minutes away from their eighth consecutive win and an appearance in the Elite Eight.
Marquette’s first half was summed up by a beautiful pass from Tyler Kolek to Oso Ighodaro in the lane for a dunk … that Ighodaro missed. The ball bounced out to David Joplin for a 3-pointer … that he missed.
Kolek has 14 of Marquette’s 24 points. Joplin is 0 of 6 from the field and missed all three of his free throw attempts to end the half.

-
Fri, March 29, 2024 at 7:38 PM EDT
NC State leads 26-17 with 5:47 to go. Mohamed Diarra was a dominant rebounder in the ACC tournament and already has nine boards tonight. DJ Burns just picked up his second foul, however.
Marquette is now 1 of 11 from the 3-point line. The Golden Eagles are shooting 7 of 12 from inside the arc.

Marquette’s performance so far feels a lot like Arizona’s last night. The Golden Eagles are getting to the basket, but they’re taking and missing too many 3-pointers.

Fri, March 29, 2024 at 7:26 PM EDT
NC State leads 20-12 with 11:32 to go in the first half. DJ Horne has eight points for the Wolfpack. Marquette is 0 of 6 from the 3-point line so far.

The Gamecocks can overwhelm teams with their depth and that’s certainly happening here. The Hoosiers will need a good start to the third quarter to stay in this thing.

Indiana head coach Teri Moren yesterday:
“We know it’s going to be a tall task because they’re so terrific and so not just well-balanced but they really have 10 starters, the way I look at it, when we’re preparing for them.”
Through the first half, nine South Carolina players played at least seven minutes and all scored. It is so tough to keep up with the wave and match-ups Dawn Staley can throw out on the court.

Halftime: South Carolina 49, Indiana 32
Gamecocks are getting whatever they want, scoring inside and outside while holding a potent Indiana offense at bay. Kamilla Cardoso leads the way with 11 points and Hoosiers star Mackenzie Holmes has been limited to just 4 points on 1 of 6 shooting.

Hannah Hidalgo was required to leave the game at the start of the second quarter to remove her nose ring, which she has played with all season. The NCAA said in a statement to reporters it was not allowed under Rule 1, Section 25, Article 7: “Head decorations, head wear, helmets, and jewelry are illegal.” Religious head wear is permitted under certain stipulations. Narrow, plastic and pliable “piercing retainers” are allowed to prevent the piercing hole from closing, per the rule book.
If a player is deemed to be wearing jewelry, the player “shall be required to remove the jewelry immediately or be required to leave the game and not return until after removing the jewelry” at the first dead ball of the game, per the rules.

Notre Dame heads into offseason
The bright spot for Fighting Irish fans is Notre Dame should be more dangerous next season. Olivia Miles, an Associated Press All American, will be back after redshirting with a knee injury this year. She’ll join Hannah Hidalgo and Sonia Citron to become one of the best full backcourts in the nation. A few more players should also be back from injury, an issue that complicated Notre Dame’s season. The ACC tournament champions over-performed given that fact alone.
Notre Dame, at least now before the transfer portal activity, is a clear favorite in the ACC. Virginia Tech, the regular season champ, heads into 2024-25 in flux without center Elizabeth Kitley, point guard Georgia Amoore and head coach Kenny Brooks.

Hannah Hidalgo’s final bucket gave her 10 points, which kept it from being a career-low outing. She previously scored 10 points twice: against NC State (59-43 loss) and against Clemson, which finished in the bottom four of the ACC standings.
It was a bad time to go cold. She was 4-of-17, also near a career-low, and Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey didn’t have anyone else to turn to for minutes with only six players available. Anna DeWolfe, a fifth-year senior transfer, scored at least 12 or more in only seven games this season. But her 12 today wasn’t quite enough to fill Hidalgo’s scoring void in a tight contest.

Final: Oregon State 70, Notre Dame 65
The Beavers survive and advance. Their reward? Presumably a date with undefeated South Carolina. OSU’s Timea Gardiner leads the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds while Raegan Beers adds 18 and 13.

Sonia Cintron’s 3-point shot is blocked and Oregon State is going to the line. This thing is over if not for a miracle.

Raegan Beers just gave OSU a 4-point lead with under 30 seconds left. Notre Dame’s defense just hasn’t been able to get the key stops needed in this one.
