One tradition that has continued throughout MLB history is the invitation of the World Series champions to the White House. Many great teams have been invited to the White House, and the 2024 Los Angeles Dodgers can be added. Of the many stars on the Dodgers, President Donald Trump made sure to shout out Shohei Ohtani for his historic season.

While addressing the team, President Trump praised Ohtani for his incredible 50-homer, 50-steal season and said, “He looks like a movie star.”

Ohtani has built himself into a larger-than-life figure. He stands at 6’3″ and weighs 210 pounds; his frame allows him to be a dominant two-way player. MLB has never seen a player like Ohtani. Babe Ruth is the most comparable player in baseball history, but he was not even putting up the season-to-season numbers we see from Ohtani.
Ohtani was even invited into the Oval Office, where he took a picture with the president and the Declaration of Independence. It was an eventful day for Ohtani and the Dodgers, earned through their excellence on the field following their 2024 World Series win, a five-game, dominant series from L.A.
Ohtani Looking To Make MLB History
What Ohtani has done to begin his MLB career has been unbelievable. He has won three MVP awards and has been among the most successful two-way players ever, certainly in the modern era. In his first season as a Dodger, he won the MVP after hitting 54 home runs with 59 stolen bases and winning his first World Series.
If he can win another MVP in 2025, Ohtani will become only the second player in MLB history with 4+ MVP wins. On that list, he will join Barry Bonds, who many view as the greatest hitter of all time.
Ohtani is expected to return to the mound at some point this season; he could not pitch all of last season as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. But he is back throwing bullpens, and his timetable to return to the mound in game action is uncertain.
His value reaches an all-time high when he is pitching and hitting. The Dodgers need Ohtani to be at full strength by the postseason, and he could provide massive production from both the plate and the mound. As long as the Dodgers stay healthy, they can repeat as champions, making another trip to the White House possible.
The Dodgers were projected to be the top team in MLB in 2025 in PFSN’s MLB Power Rankings, and with a 9-3 record in an uber-competitive NL West.
