Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Liverpool have been handed a concern as Dutch forward Cody Gakpo was absent from their Champions League open training session.
Arne Slot’s side are gearing up for their knockout showdown with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. The top-flight leaders travel to the French capital looking to take an advantage into their second-leg at Anfield next week.
The Dutchman missed two matches last month after picking up an ankle injury during their 2-2 draw with Everton. Gakpo returned to make appearances off the bench for their wins over Manchester City and Newcastle United, which saw Liverpool move 13 points clear at the top of the table.
It marks the latest injury scare for the league leaders as Arsenal look to chase down the double-digit gap and earn a first Premier League crown in over 20 years. The Gunners are in European action themselves this week as they travel to the Phillips Stadion to take on PSV Eindhoven – who overcame Liverpool during the League Phase of the new-look competition.
Mikel Arteta will be hoping that they can bounce back from their recent run which saw them lose at home to West Ham United before they were held at Nottingham Forest. There will be a close eye on any further injury worries with the issues in North London mounting after Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’ problems saw them join Bukayo Saka on the sideline.
Arsenal travel to Old Trafford on Sunday looking to keep pressure on the Anfield club but come up against a wounded Manchester United side, who were dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties against Fulham on Sunday.
Ruben Amorim will be hoping that his side can respond and lay the benchmark for the remainder of their campaign, with the ambition to pick up silverware and score a respectable finish in light of a dismal season. However, the Gunners will have to realise the threat that United pose after the Red Devils scared their title rivals, Liverpool, in their meeting at Anfield in January.
