Swedish Italo Disco duo Sally Shapiro are well regarded for their choice of remixers for their work — a cadre that over the years has included the likes of Nite Jewel, Lovelock, Mitch Murder, Anoraak, Tensnake, The Juan Maclean, Lindstrøm, and so many more. They’re at it again. This time it’s Sad Cities, their latest album, getting the remix treatment, and today Vehlinggo is proud to premiere English synthwave legend Sunglasses Kid’s dreamy take on “Tell Me How (Feat. Tommy ’86).”
In the hands of Sunglasses Kid, “Tell Me How” straddles the line between the sound and spirit of the 1980s and modern sensibilities. He has reworked the cut into a retro-inspired, cinematic ballad without sacrificing the galactic quality of the original.
“Sunglasses Kid is a skilled producer with detailed knowledge of ’80s sound technology!” Shapiro and Johan Agebjörn said in a statement. “We’re glad we got him on board on the remix album and we think he did excellent work on “Tell Me How,” resulting in this very emotional and melancholic remix with both pop and retrowave qualities.”
The remixer himself was likewise laudatory.
“I had a great time remixing ‘Tell Me How,’ he said in a statement. “I’ve always loved Sally’s ethereal vocal style and am a big fan of the music she makes with Johan. I loved getting the chance to put my own spin on things with this driving dreamy synthwave remix every car stereo needs this summer.”
The Sad Cities remix album, in addition to Sunglasses Kid, features contributions from Steve Moore (returning as Lovelock), Betamaxx, Ben Macklin (of Duett), Italoconnection, Johnny Jewel, Gerd Janson, VONDA7, Juno Dreams, Bark Bark Disco, Jaakko Eino Kalevi, and Krister Linder. It releases tomorrow via Italians Do It Better.
