Justin Thomas is worried that his underwhelming performance at the Masters may jeopardize his chances of making the Ryder Cup.
This year’s Ryder Cup, set to take place at Bethpage Black in New York in September, is already casting a shadow over the golf season, with players vying for a spot on either the USA or European team. While Rory McIlroy celebrated his Masters victory, Thomas struggled to find his footing, finishing two-over par and never in contention for the green jacket, despite showing promise in the lead-up to Augusta.
Thomas was deeply disappointed with his performance and is now focused on the Ryder Cup, hoping to catch the eye of captain Keegan Bradley. With six players automatically qualifying via the Ryder Cup points list and the remaining six spots filled by captain’s picks, Thomas is eager to improve his standing.
Prior to the Masters, Thomas was ranked ninth in the world, and the 31-year-old is determined to get back on track and secure a Ryder Cup spot.
“It’s a tough spot to be in, but it’s also self-inflicted,” Thomas said, seeming unconfident of making the Ryder Cup. “It’s a huge goal of mine (playing in the Ryder Cup), but I feel like if I keep doing what I’m doing and get in contention to win some tournaments and start winning some tournaments and majors, then it’ll all take care of itself.”
Thomas faced challenges as he competed at the Masters sans his usual caddie, with Matt ‘Rev’ Minister sidelined due to a back injury; Max Homa’s ex-caddie Joe Greiner stepped in to carry his clubs.

Thomas hasn’t had it easy on the greens recently but has shown a return to form of late. At the Valspar Championship, he watched Viktor Hovland snag the win, leaving Thomas without a title since his 2022 triumph at the PGA Championship at Southern Hills.
Eager to get back on track and secure his spot for the Ryder Cup, where Team USA aims to recapture the trophy, Thomas is all-in. Despite the defeat to Europe in Rome last year with a stinging 16.5-11.5 scoreline, Thomas managed to snatch a personal victory in the singles round on Sunday against Sepp Straka at the Marco Simeone Golf Club.
With three Ryder Cups under his belt and a respectable 7-4-2 tally, including a notable victory over Rory McIlroy, Thomas’ experience and proven talent make him a formidable contender in the cup matches.
