The 2025 NFL Draft is less than a month away, and all signs point to Miami’s Cam Ward being the first overall pick. Colorado’s Travis Hunter had a brief stint in the first-pick discussion and is likely to be selected in the top five.
The two-way star has a chance to do something special by seeing extended time on both sides of the ball for an NFL team. Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs thinks Hunter could earn a large contract if he can pull it off.

Josh Jacobs Thinks Travis Hunter Has Earned The Right To Play Both Ways
Ward, Penn State’s Abdul Carter, and Hunter’s Colorado teammate Shedeur Sanders are likely the top three picks in the draft, but Hunter is the one player who could spoil that part. He dominated both sides of the ball en route to the 2024 Heisman Trophy and is the most intriguing prospect in recent memory.
Hunter racked up 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns as a receiver last season, adding 36 tackles, four interceptions, and 11 pass breakups as a cornerback.
He swept the major awards in 2024—winning the Walter Camp Award (best overall player), the Biletnikoff Award (top receiver), and the Bednarik Award (best defensive player)—and enters the 2025 draft as arguably the best all-around player available.
MLFootball recently posted a video of Jacobs answering questions, one of which was about Hunter. The Green Bay running back praised the two-way star and thinks he’s not only earned the chance to prove he can play both ways in the NFL but could also earn a massive payday.

Jacobs said, “If he is able to do it though, he’s gonna have to be the highest-paid player of all time.” He was asked if it’s realistic for Hunter to play both ways, “I think he earned the right to give him a chance to at least see. I think he earned that. Do I think that it’s possible? I don’t know. It’s possible. It ain’t never been done for real on every play. But I say, give him a chance. Let him see if he can do it.”
He continued, “It will all depend on his body. Cause who you know do that? Nobody. It’s never been done.”
How Hunter’s body responds to playing both ways in the NFL is a big question mark. Former receiver Julian Edelman agrees, saying, “The more football you play, the less safe it is,” about the prospect of Hunter playing offense and defense.
He’s proven he can do it at a high level in college, but the NFL game is a different animal. It will be up to whoever drafts Hunter if he gets a chance to play both ways, but he’ll be one of the most exciting players to watch in 2025.
