Jason Manford has called out Nike for making a “weird” change to the England football kit. He noticed that the St George’s cross on the collar is now blue and purple – and he wasn’t the only one.
England’s new football kits were shown off on Monday and will be worn by Gareth Southgate’s team at Euro 2024 in Germany. The team is in a group with Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia.
Nike shared the new design on social media. They said the colourful cross on the collar is meant to bring people together and give them hope. The company also talked about other parts of the kit. There are side panels on the away kit and special cuffs on the home shirt.
But Jason Manford only talked about the flag. “What a weird thing to do though! A US company having a cheeky play with another country’s flag,” he said.
However, some fans noted that changing the colours of the flag on the kit was not a new concept, as Umbro had done so in 2011.

According to the description of the home shirt on Nike’s UK website, “their 2024/25 Home kit remains, as it always has, white. We accented the classic white kit, a staple going back to 1872, with striped sleeve cuffs and neck tape, honouring the singular style of the man who earned them their star in 1966.”
