Today, HM is proud to present an exclusive early listen of “Bad Habit,” the latest single by Michigan pop punk act Visitor Pass.
After years of booking shows, helping with DIY festivals, and touring alongside other projects, including as a founding member of Michigan stalwarts Amessa, Amanda Bernstorf stepped into her own last year with the release of “White Noise,” her first single as Visitor Pass.
Meant to champion all things loud, bright, fast, and checkered, Visitor Pass fuses classic mid-2000s mall emo with a modern spread of bands ranging from Beach Bunny to Bad Luck to Eat Your Heart Out. Visitor Pass debuted live at this year’s Audiofeed Festival alongside an incredibly varied selection of bands, including Impending Doom, With Blood Comes Cleansing, Irae, xDoulosx, Timbre, and Kevin Schlereth.
“‘Bad Habit’ came out of my frustration with myself,” Bernstorf tells HM. “I have a bad habit of sabotaging things as soon as they are getting remotely good. Turns out that I am afraid of success, almost as equally as I am afraid of failure.”
“If other people relate to this song, I hope they feel encouraged that we are are going to fail at some point, but that doesn’t make them a failure. And just the same, when things are going well, try not shy away from that, but embrace the good. I’m also still working on that one.”
Being in the center of such genre diversity is exactly where Amanda wants to be–passion and fun, irrespective of labels and boundaries. “Bad Habit” leads the way as the first of three Visitor Pass singles to come in the next few months and features Zeke McKinney of Tooth and Nail post-hardcore heroes Idle Threat.
“Zeke is one of my favorite vocalists, so I was hyped when he agreed to sing on the track,” Bernstorf adds.
“I really want my sound to draw from post-hardcore/hardcore elements, since they are some of my favorite genres, so it was a no-brainer to ask Zeke to be on this song.”
Recorded and produced at Oatmeal House by Andrew Tyson of Nashville pop punk band Real Face, “Bad Habit” is here to challenge all our self-sabotaging tendencies as people, pushing for a more full embrace of life while inviting sing-a-longs and stage dives in the process.
“Bad Habit” will be available everywhere tomorrow, November 15.
