Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is trying to get back on track after missing the majority of the 2024 season due to a torn meniscus.
He is off to a slow start, but it’s encouraging to see Trout healthy, especially since he is one of the best players in the game when he’s on the field.
The Angels wrapped up a three-game series on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, and Trout had some time to reflect on one of his former teammates: Albert Pujols.
Mike Trout Reflects on Time With Albert Pujols
Pujols began his legendary career with the Cardinals, playing there from 2001 until 2011. Then, Pujols went to the Angels and was a teammate of Trout’s from 2012 until 2021, when he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Since Pujols retired from the MLB, he has been an analyst on MLB Network while also being hired by the Angels as a special assistant.
So, when Trout and the Angels went to St. Louis, the Angels’ star could think and realize what Pujols meant to that city and what he learned from the future Hall of Famer.
“My career wouldn’t be like this, how it is now, without him. Having a mentor like him coming up. He had all the answers. He experienced everything. It was fun playing with him,” Trout said about his time with Pujols.
“It’s special to come back and see the impact obviously he had in St. Louis when he came back here/ What he meant to this city, this organization, you felt it. As soon as you stepped out of the dugout As soon as you stepped off the plane. You can just tell this is Albert’s city.”

Pujols retired at 42 years old after the 2022 MLB season, one he spent with the Cardinals in a perfect storybook ending to a legendary career.
He was an 11-time All-Star, six-time Silver Slugger winner, three-time MVP, two-time Gold Glove winner, and a winner of two World Series, both of which came with the Cardinals.
Pujols is still around the game of baseball, although in a different realm. He previously coached Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Republic’s winter league. In the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Pujols is going to be the manager for the Dominican Republic.
“I feel that I can offer so much to players and to teams … It’s about helping others and having that passion,” Pujls said about the new role.
Still, Trout reveals what Pujols meant to him, and the future Hall of Famer has left an impact on many involved in the game.
