Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams caused disgust among Monday Night Football viewers after shoving his finger in the ear hole of an opponent’s helmet during yesterday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Williams’ side fell to a 23-15 defeat at the hands of their AFC East opponents and tempers eventually flared over on the pitch after a play ended on the 24-year-old’s’ teammate, Demarcus Robinson.
A shove from Miami cornerback Kader Kohou started the melee, before Williams took matters into his own hands shortly after. Pointing out where the chaos started by pointing at Kohou, the former Notre Dame RB’s finger soon found its way into the ear hole of his rival’s helmet, where it remained stuck for a few moments.
Because Williams was wearing gloves, however, it wasn’t his bare left-pointer finger that went into the ear of Kohou, although that didn’t stop him from coming away from the scuffle as the biggest villain.
His gesture was far from traditional in any sense yet surprisingly he wasn’t pulled up for his behavior. However, those watching from home were able to see the full thing thanks to the NFL’s eagle-eyed cameras.
Williams’ act pretty much summed up the frustration of the Rams, who sit in third-place in the NFC West with their latest defeat, leaving them only above the Seattle Seahawks on head-to-head victory despite sharing the same 4-5 record.
Monday’s defeat brought an end to a promising three-game winning streak for Sean McVay’s outfit, which will now look to immediately bounce back when it takes on the 3-7 New England Patriots, who sit bottom of the AFC East and have won at home just once all season.
As for Williams, the former Fighting Irish alumni had 62 rushing yards against the Dolphins, his lowest total since Week 2 against the Cardinals. Since being selected by the Rams in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft, however, he has come on leaps and bounds with his development.
He finished the 2023 season with 228 carries for 1,144 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns to go along with 32 receptions for 206 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns in 12 appearances and 11 starts. Williams was then ranked 78th by his fellow players on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2024.
