John Krasinski has been named the Sexiest Man Alive, and the actor/director has said his wife Emily Blunt is “very excited” about it.
Krasinski, 45, rose to fame playing Jim Halpert in the US version of The Office and went on to direct A Quiet Place and its sequel, as well as the 2024 animated film IF.
Now, he has been given the annual award by People magazine, following on from recent winners Patrick Dempsey, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd and Michael B. Jordan.
Speaking to the magazine about being named this year’s winner, Krasinski said his initial reaction was that he was “being punked”, and that he had an “immediate blackout”.
“That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’,” he added. “And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.”
Asked how his wife of 14 years reacted, he said “there was a lot of joy involved” in letting her know about it, and that she was “very excited,” adding that she had joked about printing off the cover of the magazine and using it as wallpaper.

“Do we have that on camera?,” he joked. “Because that’s like a binding contract, I think. My children will love that, it won’t be weird at all.”
In other Emily Blunt news, earlier this year, she admitted that some of her on-screen kisses have made her want to throw up.
“I have had chemistry with people who…I have not had a good time working with them,” she said. “I wouldn’t say it’s sort of extreme loathing, but I have definitely not enjoyed some of it.”
She was quick to clarify that it did not apply to some of her more favourite co-stars, including Tom Cruise, Cillian Murphy, Dwayne Johnson, Robert Downey Jr and Matt Damon.
The actress also revealed the compliment that Taylor Swift gave to her nine-year-old daughter earlier this year.
“She was so nice to my kids,” she explained. “My oldest kid has just cut all of her hair off, this very short haircut that she was very self-conscious about. And Taylor Swift, goes, ‘God, look at you, you’re just this Sixties beatnik cool kid. I love your style’.”
“I thought my child was going to faint,” but called the gesture “the best thing anyone’s done for my child.”
