Eddie Vedder has released a cover of Tom Petty‘s song “Room at the Top” for the Apple TV+ series “Bad Monkey.”
Vedder recorded the cover with the backing of Andrew Watt, Chad Smith, Benmont Tench, Glen Hansard, Chis Chaney, and Josh Klinghoffer.
“Room at the Top” is the first track on the album Echo by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It was originally released in 1999. It reached No. 19 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock chart. “Room at the Top” was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards.
The song has been part of Vedder’s solo shows for some time. In 2018, he even performed it during the “In Memoriam” tribute to Petty at the Academy Awards.
“Bad Monkey” is an upcoming drama television series developed and executive produced by Bill Lawrence. The series is scheduled to be premiere on August 14, 2024, on Apple TV+. It is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen.
