DeVonta Smith shared plenty of eye-opening insights about football during his time on the podcast “7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony,” but there was also time for some more light-hearted discussion. After host Kazeem Famuyide read that NFL teams reportedly go through 80,000 Uncrustables per year, Smith professed his love for the snack.

DeVonta Smith, Carmelo Anthony Talk Love of PB&J Sandwiches
Asked whether or not he was responsible for some of those 80,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Smith lit up.
“Uncrustable me, man. Gotta have it. Halftime, I need that Uncrustable. I gotta have grape jelly, though, I can’t do strawberry jelly.”
Famuyide agreed, screwing his face up at the idea of strawberry jelly. Anthony, a basketball legend, had a lot to say on the subject: “I’m a PB&J guy. And some arenas [are] known for having the best PB&J.”
Anthony then reminisced about the different sandwiches that he’d enjoyed throughout his career. “Dallas had good PB&Js. They got the good, Texas, thick bread, you know what I’m saying.”
The sandwiches are clearly a passion for Anthony, who continued on his tangent for the sandwich. “It’s the love that you put into the PB&J. Before Uncrustables, people was in there making the actual PB&J, so it depends on the amount of love that they put into it. Like, if they just slap the grape jelly on there and the peanut butter and tell you to go, nah.”
One thing most NFL & NBA players have in common is their love for PB&J 🥪😂

And Anthony was very specific about how he likes his sandwiches: “Crust off, toasted, light butter. Incredible.”
The host then revealed that he sometimes fries the sandwiches like a grilled cheese, much to the surprise of his guest and co-host.
Smith Talks About His Decision To Choose Football Over Basketball
Aside from sandwiches, Smith spoke about several subjects including his current and former teammates, winning the Super Bowl, and his place in college football history.
One other topic that arose, was Smith’s decision to pursue football despite also excelling in basketball at a young age. When Anthony pressed him on his decision, Smith revealed that it wasn’t an easy one to make.
“For me, it was tough, because my whole family played basketball. That’s what I grew up on. My grandfather’s the only person to play football. So it was just kinda, like, I played every sport, but basketball is what was rolled out there for me,” Smith said.
“I had a hard time letting it go. Vince [Sanders], my mentor, he kinda broke it down for me. ‘It’s not always about doing what you wanna do but doing what’s best for you.’”
Two national championships, one Biletnikoff Award, one Heisman Trophy, and one Super Bowl Title later, it’s hard to argue with Smith’s decision.
