United States President Donald Trump called the Navy football team “gentlebin” as part of a rambling speech as he welcomed the program to the White House.
On Tuesday, Trump welcomed the Midshipen to the White House to commemorate the program’s Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy win. Navy defeated the Air Force 34-7 and also crushed the Army 31-13 – but Trump appeared to babble incoherently while addressing the media and the team.
Trump’s bumbling moment came after he made a subtle dig at J.D. Vance for fumbling the National Championship trophy during Ohio State‘s recent White House visit. Trump also came up with a ludicrous way to make himself look taller while standing next to an Ohio State player.
He was speaking about stealth, and said: “A lot of times they’ll show me a ship or a plane, and I say, ‘That doesn’t look good.’ And they say, ‘Well, it’s stealth.’ I say, ‘I don’t care if it’s stealth or not, we’re going to change it, we have to.’ I’m not sure I believe so much in this stealth thing.
“But we want the most beautiful equipment, the best equipment. That’s what we’re going to get and you’re going to lead the way. And I’m going to help you too cause I like doing that stuff. And we’re gonna get a lot of ships, a lot of planes, for all of the armed services.”
Trump then continued to ramble, and referred to the Midshipmen as the “gentlebin behind me.” It left social media concerned for his well-being and mental aptitude, although perhaps the President is simply tired from speaking to college teams following the visit of national champion Ohio State on Monday.

Back in January, Ohio State secured a 34-23 win over Notre Dame in the National Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day and his players traveled to Washington, D.C. to be welcomed to the White House by Trump and vice president JD Vance – whose alma mater is Ohio State.
Trump said Jan. 20 was a great day as it was Inauguration Day before Ohio State dominated Notre Dame. Then he made a crude joke when recalling Jack Sawyer’s 83-yard scoop-and-score that sent the Buckeyes to the national championship.
Ohio State and Navy are just two of several sports teams set to visit Trump at the White House after their triumphant 2024 season. The World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers visited the White House earlier this month, while the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are set to visit on April 28.
While they lost Super Bowl LIX to the Eagles, the Kansas City Chiefs were recently invited to the White House by Trump to make up for their 2020 visit. The AFC West franchise missed out on the trip due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
