Dembele provides injury update as Arsenal get second leg boost
Ousmane Dembele has provided an update on the potential injury he suffered while featuring for Paris Saint-Germain against Arsenal.
Dembele scored the only goal of the Champions League semi-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium to see Arsenal trail 1-0 going into the reverse fixture in Paris next week.
The Gunners will face Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend before making the trip to the French capital for the semi-final second leg next Wednesday.
Dembele emerged as an injury doubt for PSG going into the second leg against Arsenal after post-match comments from manager Luis Enrique. The France international was substituted in the second half and replaced by Bradley Barcola before going straight down the tunnel rather than join his teammates on the bench.
Enrique stated that Dembele is a doubt to face Arsenal in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final. The player himself, though, has provided an update that is much more optimistic from PSG’s point of view.
“I felt a little something, but it’s okay,” Dembele told L’Equipe.
When asked about Dembele’s fitness, Enrique confirmed that the PSG star would need to undergo further tests to discover the full extent of the injury. It remains to be seen if the 27-year-old will be available to face Arsenal next week, with a Ligue 1 clash against Strasbourg taking place this weekend.
“I don’t know. He’ll undergo tests tomorrow,” Enrique told reporters during his post-match press conference at the Emirates Stadium.
“It’s not serious. It’s something very minor, but he’s probably a doubt for the second leg.
“We’re going to try to get Dembele back on the pitch. But we’re a real team. If Ousmane can play, that’s better. But if he doesn’t, we’ll still be a real team. We’ve been saying that since the start of the season.”
