The Indiana Fever is heating up ahead of the highly-anticipated 2025 WNBA season, with star player Caitlin Clark getting in top shape during winter thanks to a restful offseason.
Things got cheeky between Clark and her teammates on social media, as the Fever’s shining talent didn’t hold back on Instagram. A post by incoming trade Sophie Cunningham, featuring her alongside 2022 first-round pick Lexie Hull with the quip “seeing double?” for her over 280,000 followers, sparked some banter.
Clark jumped in with a zinger: “Little less tanning. A little more bball ladies,” she penned. Earlier, when the tables were turned, Cunningham playfully ribbed Clark after she shared a series of photos on media day.

With the comments section filled with compliments, it was Cunningham’s light-hearted jab, “The tan will come… everything else is perf,” that stood out.
Cunningham, age 28, landed with the Fever through a four-team trade during the offseason, waving goodbye to NaLyssa Smith, the second overall pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft.
She was originally picked 13th by the Phoenix Mercury back in 2019 and has played her entire career until now in Phoenix, averaging 8.4 points over nearly 28 minutes per game last season.
Along with Cunningham’s arrival, the Fever also welcomed DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, and Sydney Colson, all aiming to bolster their squad as they set sights on a deeper run in the WNBA Playoffs.
Clark, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year and fourth in the league’s MVP voting, will lead the team. The second-year star sat out the team’s opening preseason game against the Washington Mystics, which ended in a 79-74 overtime victory on Saturday afternoon.
“I’ll go through all our warmups and everything – and then they’ll decide if I’m good to go or not,” she said before the game. Clark made several shots during warmups but didn’t play in the game.

Clark appears ready to compete for the MVP award this year. “That was my biggest focus in the offseason, just trying to get stronger and really working on that,” she told reporters at training camp.
“[I’m] really thankful to Sarah, our strength and conditioning coach, putting in a lot of time with me, and we were in here consistently.”
The Fever will continue their preseason with a game against the Brazil National Team (who played Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky Friday night) on Sunday afternoon. ESPN is scheduled to broadcast the game.
