At just 26 years old, Clairo has spent considerable time contemplating her life. She is now opening up about why a significant aspect of it remains mostly undefined.
In a recent feature for Seventeen, the artist behind “Sexy to Someone” discussed her choice to avoid labeling her sexuality. “I’m not interested in labels at all. People should love who they want, and it should be nobody’s concern,” she remarked. “My experience with my queerness improved once I stopped overthinking and let it unfold naturally. If I’m dating a girl, then I’m dating a girl. If it’s a guy, then it’s a guy.”
Clairo publicly identified as queer in a 2018 message on X, but she never made a definitive statement regarding how she identifies, noting that her collaboration with Danny L Harle, “B.O.M.D.” (interpreted as “boy of my dreams”), could also be regarded as “G.O.M.D.” to represent girls too.

In her latest interview, the star clarified that she doesn’t have an aversion to labels; rather, she recognizes that they hold less significance in her personal journey. “I understand that for some, having clear distinctions can be beneficial — it’s important to have a defined path. It varies for each individual,” she shared. “Being queer constitutes a fundamental aspect of who I am. I felt liberated once I acknowledged that I can love anyone and everyone.”
Regarding her own path, Clairo expressed that she learned over time that coming out is not a simple event but an ongoing process of self-discovery. “I wish I could revisit my past self and convey that I don’t need to have everything figured out. I can still explore, date, and kiss whomever I desire,” she stated. “I don’t have to determine my identity by a specific day. That was the first moment in my life where I had to accept uncertainty.”
Throughout the interview, Clairo also shared her experience of revealing her more vulnerable self to her fans during her musical journey. “Think of having a diary where you revisit an entry and think, ‘What was I even talking about?’” she explained. “But it’s out there in the open, and a friend says, ‘I love this. It reminds me of my own experiences.’ And you realize, ‘Oh, I guess it’s not so terrible if it resonates with you.’”
