Chelsea are through to the final four of the UEFA Conference League after a 4-2 aggregate win over Legia Warsaw in the quarter-final.
The Blues took a 3-0 lead into the second leg at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night with goals from Tyrique George and Noni-Madueke (x2) in the away leg giving them a comfortable cushion for this week’s clash at Stamford Bridge.
It’s a cushion that they would go on to need with Enzo Maresca’s side falling to a 2-1 home defeat against the Polish side in the second leg. Tomas Pekhart put Legia 1-0 up from the penalty spot after just 10 minutes, before Marc Cucurella drew level in the 33rd.
Steve Kapuadi scored what turned out to be the winning goal on the night. But Chelsea’s advantage was enough to see them through to the semi-final of the competition.
They will now take on Djurgarden in the final four, with the Swedish side overcoming Rapid Vienna after extra time of the second leg. The side had to fight back after a 1-0 home defeat in the first leg, but an early red card for Vienna’s Mamadou Sangare gave them a man advantage.
Djurgarden then took the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, before an own goal drew Vienna level in first half added time. Keita Kosugi scored for Djurgarden in the second half to make the scoreline 2-2 on aggregate and take the tie to extra time.
The Swedish side were able to take advantage of the extra man in the additional 30 minutes with Tobias Gulliksen scoring twice see Djurgarden through with a 4-2 aggregate win.
The semi-finals will take place on Thursday, May 1 and Thursday, May 8. The winner of Chelsea’s tie will take on either Real Betis or Fiorentina in the final of the competition on Wednesday 28th May with the game being played at the Stadion Wroclaw in Poland.
