Cardi B is expressing her condolences to the Dominican Republic following the devastating incident at the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, where the roof collapse has resulted in at least 66 fatalities and over 160 injuries, as reported at the time of this publication.
The rapper, whose father hails from the Dominican Republic, shared a heartfelt message of grief with her BG Secret Society followers on Instagram this past Tuesday (April 8), per a screenshot released by Complex. “I’m literally in tears scrolling through my timeline witnessing my Dominican people being rescued, some alive and some lost,” she noted. “I feel a deep sadness seeing families in anguish, desperately searching for loved ones … I sense that all Dominicans worldwide are in a massive hora Santa, praying for those who survived and for the departed to find peace in God’s Glory. For those who have lost a family member or a friend, let not their memories haunt you; they exited this world singing and dancing, most likely joyful and thriving, and that’s how the Lord will welcome them.”
Cardi also paid tribute to merengue artist Rubby Pérez, who reportedly passed away after the roof caved in during his midnight performance at the venue. “It’s devastating to witness one of our legendary artists [Rubby] Pérez depart in such a tragic manner,” she remarked. “However, I take comfort in knowing that our last memory of him is his beautiful voice resonating with us … He sang one last time. I urge my fans to pray for those who were in that building on that fateful night ❤️💙”
