Ex-Fear Factory, etc. bassist/vocalist Christian Olde Wolbers‘ plans to set out with a new venture that seeks to recapture various Fear Factory traits piqued the curiosity of many fans of the gold-certified industrial metal band. While Fear Factory remain very much active, and have been working on their first studio album with vocalist Milo Silvestro, only guitarist Dino Cazares remains onboard from the ‘classic era’ of the group.
Years of infighting and bitter legal battles utlmately tore the original Fear Factory lineup apart as various members settled warring factions. Earlier this year, Wolbers, who last played in the band back in 2006, revealed his new project Angst Fabrik, which roughly translated from German means ‘Fear Factory’.
With Wolbers and Bell having spent some time together just days ahead of Wolbers‘ announcement, some speculated that the timing may have indicated Bell would also be involved. However, in a new interview Sense Music Media, Bell has seemingly distanced himself from the project. Asked about Wolbers‘ fledgling nostalgic venture, Bell replied
“‘Angst Fabrik‘. It’s how Germans say Fear Factory. And we came across that — we played a venue called Angst Fabrik in Germany years ago.
But I saw Christian at NAMM. And we spoke and hugged, and it was good to run into him. I’m glad to see that he is doing well. But I don’t really think anything about it [laughs], about what he is doing. I mean, more power to him. But there’s really only one Fear Factory. There was one Fear Factory, I should say that.”
He went on to add, “I’m proud of everything I did in Fear Factory. We did some really great music. We did a couple boners here and there, but they all can’t be winners.” Bell‘s latest shot at the current incarnation of Fear Factory isn’t a surprising barb given his acrimonious 2020 spit with Cazares and the band.
